Federal regulations and Maryland state laws got rid of consequences for kids and parents. A lot will need to corrected at those levels before MCPS can turn things around. The politicians and elites forced this onto schools. These people don’t even have kids in public schools.
Name the bills and the laws so we can advocate to have them updated or rescinded.
+1
The Obama era changes that suggested schools could run afoul of federal civil rights laws if they disciplined students of color at higher rates than their peers were rolled back some during the Trump era. The school systems that implemented changes initially are unlikely to change back however. I can’t imagine MCPS changing discipline guidelines if it led to an increase in minority kids getting in trouble. I think they would prefer to let the entire system crumble.
The discipline disparities for minority kids still persist even with these lenient guidelines in place, so clearly the guidelines are not solving the problem they were designed to disrupt.
