My kids are doing well. They are college bound.

Stop acting like this is the norm. MCPS has over 150K kids. There are 400 parents on DCUM hatin’. Just stop.

The basis of this thread is a Bethesda magazine article that lays out numerous problems in MCPS. You can’t blame DCUM for this one.

That won’t stop them from trying.

That’s why student count is down and anyone who can has already opted out.

Student count is down everywhere.
Nice try

No, student count in MCPS is down, but applications to DMV private schools are way up.

Lots of reasons, some left during COVID for child care, some move away due to jobs and housing costs and some left when they dropped programs like the MVA. Not a surprise.

Not just "for child care" - virtual school was a disaster academically for a lot of kids.

Is attendance at privates way up, too, or just total applications? Are those applications mostly the same people applying go more places to increase overall chance of placement?

Basically, is there really much of a shift to privates, or is the overall school-age population declining? Montgomery Planning might have such data.

Virtual took a lot of parental involvement and other things and most parents weren't willing to put in that kind of effort. We thought it was better academically.

Only a few privates have increased their numbers, so I don't think there is a huge shift as there just aren't enough slots at the better schools.

My kids are doing fine. One is a freshman at at T25 school. The other one is a junior looking at colleges. They doing well and are in college of will go.

I am happy I did not go the private route. No ROI.

Private School forum disagrees.

“Why are applications to private schools at an all time high”

You cannot be that gullible. Anyone can claim anything.
Were there any proofs provided? None Was provided.

+1 This is why MCPS used to be so good. It wasn't the school system, it was the households the students came from. That is over. Now MCPS is lost.

“SJW” Josh Starr was pretty hapless, but Jack Smith and friends was the beginning of the steep decline.

Stop whining. You act like it wasn't done for a reason. There was a pandemic. I think they managed virtual classes pretty well all things considered.
