I work in biotech where the FDA regulates our biological samples used in clinical trial. I am appalled that the embryos storage room didn't have key card access nor locks on the freezers. I can imagine that someone with knowledge could take a portable nitrogen container, steal some embryos and sell them on the black market. The IVF industry should be regulated like the biotech industry is. |
It shouldn't be a problem, under Alabama laws, this would be an adoption. But no one in Alabama will be wiling to house these pre-implanted children for any reason - the liability would just be too great. |
University of Alabama halts IVF services to patients in light of this ruling.

But they’re deliberately letting the eggs die by transferring them into their mother when the uterus isn’t receptive. |
. This is me, you found me |
Candidate Nicki Haley said today she agrees with the Court's decision. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/nikki-haley-sides-with-alabama-supreme-court-on-ivf-ruling-embryos-to-me-are-babies/ar-BB1iFt7D
She had children via fertility treatments. “Embryos, to me, are babies,” Haley told NBC News in an interview, adding that she used artificial insemination to have her son, a different process than IVF that doesn’t present the same complexities around creating embryos in a lab. “When you talk about an embryo, you are talking about, to me, that’s a life. And so I do see where that’s coming from when they talk about that.” https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/moderate-nikki-haley-agrees-with-alabama-ivf-ruling.html Did she just out her husband as being sterile? |
No. IUI does not equal donor sperm. It’s a less basics, less expensive process that is usually tried before moving on to IVF. It doesn’t mean you use some other man’s sperm. You could, but that’s also true with IVf. |
*invasive not basics |
Not necessarily. IUI (intrauterine insemination) is often the first line of treatment for many causes of infertility, not just male factor. I have PCOS which resulted in infertility. All of my DH's tests came back perfectly normal during our initial workup. We were strongly encouraged to do IUI combined with clomid, then letrozole (2 medications that stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs) before proceeding to IVF. We did 6 rounds of IUI that all failed, then we moved to IVF. It could be that they dealt with male factor infertility, but it could also be that the cause of the infertility was on her side. Also, he's military. I know of a woman who underwent IUI with her husband's sperm while he was deployed, because his frequent deployments were making it hard to get pregnant. |
Why did you leap to her husband being sterile? Artificial insemination in a heterosexual couple usually involves taking sperm from the male and transferring it to the uterus of the female. It can be required if the sperm count is low or they are not motile. It is usually a precursor to IVF. However it is disgusting though not surprising that Haley would pander. |
No. But she did out herself as a giant hypocrite. Willing to let the doctors play God when it suits her but also willing to suggest other women should not. I have ZERO doubt she would have moved to ivf if iui hadn't been successful. Like many women who desperately want children. Pro life my ass. |
+1 It's what she does. It's her worst trait. |
Don't think supporting the end of IVF is going to get her many votes. 2 percent of births are IVF. |
That is 1 in 50 people under about 40 I would guess. Try to find a person that does not know or care about some one that is here on earth because of IVF. Doubt you can do it. |
On the off chance she somehow stumbles into the nomination, she'll be pro choice. If there is one thing about her that's predictable, it's strong, heartfelt stances that shift to whatever she thinks will advance her career |
