He literally failed in the most basic aspect of being the head of state: repelling an invasion. He understaffed the border to Gaza on the 50th anniversary of Yom Kippur War. I mean, how negligent and stupid can he be? Did Israel literally have zero intel on this? He deserves to be coup’d immediately by the generals. He has divided the country to the point that Israeli civilians are being dog-walked across the border into Gaza. Likud’s entire premise is that they are tough on national defense! The guy needs to be removed from office, as he’s too incompetent to fix the problem. |

Look at the pic of the little Palestinian girl holding a handgun and machine gun celebrating the attack. I mean, how to change behavior and work towards peace when a religious “culture” inculcates violence? |
If this is verified, we can all agree that it's horrific. But if you are at all rational, you've got to put this into its historical context, where for 70 years Israel and its most fervent supporter, the US, have denied the basic means of statehood to Palestinians. Israel has turned Palestinians into monsters. Yes, these are monsters who attacks Israel today, no one disputes that! But they were made because Israel has stolen their ancestral lands and entirely restricted their population's job market. What do young men do when they're forcibly unemployed and raised from birth with Israeli surveillance and brutality? They take it out on innocents, and not-so-innocents who vote for the Israeli right-wing and those who support encroachment on Palestinian lands. This is a case where both leaderships have done dastardly deeds, PP. The ones who suffer most are always the most vulnerable: women and children. But the real evil-doers, however hard it is for you to understand, are not the monsters running about in the streets. They're the besuited politicians who condemmed their populations to indefinite suffering for not allowing land, water access and statehood for Palestine. If Palestine had been a functional state from the beginning, we wouldn't be in this mess today. The lessons is always this: comfortable populations have no reason to go fighting elsewhere. Bring people out of poverty, given them safety and economic opportunity, a means to access food and shelter for their families, and they won't have murderous resentments against their wealthier neighbors. See French revolution. You'd think that after millennia of history repeating this cycle everywhere in the world, humans would know this. But they don't. |
Israel was attacked in 1967 and 1973 by its neighbors. Don't want to lose land, stop attacking your neighbor. Israel GAVE Gaza back to the Palestinians in 2005. Palestinians then destroyed everything there that Israel had built, and then began attacking Israel from Gaza. That's all that needs to be said. |
+1 Once people are fat and happy, they simply can’t get it up for anything that negatively impacts their comfort. They simply aren’t apt to fight. But the problem is there’s no easy way to lift the Palestinians out of poverty. They can’t coexist with Israel because they detest them, and they lack the infrastructure and intellect to run a functioning nation. Throwing economic aid at them fuels corruption and violence. That’s why I propose a third-party solution: a UN-led global government aimed at building a civilized nation. A big part of that audacious social contract would be reprogramming religious extremism, educating the masses, enforcing basic civil and human rights including equality, infrastructure building jobs, and a japanesque police state that simply doesn’t tolerate any nonsense. Try it for 20 years and see what happens. I mean, tremendous progress was made for women in urban parts of Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban…and it would have continued if we stayed for 100 years. It takes a loooooooong time to help religious extremists who treat women like property to evolve. |
For more than 50 years now, Palestinians have always chosen to do the wrong thing, from massacring Olympic athletes in Munich to hijacking scores of airplanes to cheering on the 9/11 attacks. In all these decades, they have demonstrated no will or capacity to govern effectively for the benefit of the people. Palestinians are despised everywhere in the region - Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia. They have no allies left except the Iranians.
This morning I watched Hamas massacre families in their homes and in their cars. I have seen Israeli women abducted and taken into Gaza. I have seen one Israeli woman, naked, obviously dead, all her limbs broken, being paraded through Gaza in the back of a pick truck as young boys spat on her. This is the hatred that Israelis are confronting. In the months ahead, Gaza will be destroyed. Thousands of Palestinians are going to die. Palestinians will never be allowed to be in a position where they can cross the border again. Life was already pretty grim in Gaza. And it's going to get a lot grimmer in the decades ahead. And for what? They have a day to kill Israeli civilians. And they will be paying for it for generations. |
It’s not easy to run an emerging government, and the Palestinian men simply weren’t equipped to do it. Soldiers are good at fighting, but you need a special set of skills to build and sustain a functional society. Factor in their intellectual limitations in terms of their education system centered on outdated religious and gender constructs, and it’s not surprising they couldn’t handle the responsibility. |
NEW: Hamas releases the footage of how it seized Israel’s Erez crossing earlier today. A bit wild

Well said. I think Hamas has underestimated Israel. And, I think they are unaware of what is yet to come. |
So? That is history Should we reinstate the borders of the ancient Roman Empire and return America to original inhabitants? |
Yes, I expect Gaza to be leveled. I expect that they'll leave a scorched earth demilitarized zone so that this will never happen again there. It will likely cause a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. |
Heck the Etruscans and Greeks would have more rights to much of the land than the Romans. Long live the Etruscans and Greeks! Maybe the Egyptians as well? |
And then what happens? Which Arab nation (or Russian and/or Chinese backed proxy) will feel compelled to retaliate? I’m more concerned with the ripple effect…or perhaps intended consequence…comes next. |
