I really liked the green for something different! There are photos of the event online and other women were wearing relatively unusual shades of green, not just Kate. I thought it was very fun for a change and enjoyed seeing the various ladies’ choices.

I am not a Kate fan but I take a perverse joy in how bad she is at dressing herself. She’s up there with Ivanka for “really? That? Those pieces together? You’re gonna style it like… well, okay.” I love the dress but hate it on her because it fits poorly, but it’s so bad I LOVE IT. If that makes any sense.

I don't especially care for Kate, but no way does she reach the level of WTF that Ivanka did over the past several years. If nothing else, she has a much easier body to fit, but also, Kate hasn't gone in for wacky cutouts or inappropriate sheerness or nutty prints or just general kookiness.

Agree. She’s a bit underwhelming considering everything she has going for her. But she has very few total misses.

Her eye makeup isn’t doing her any favors, way too heavy. She looks older than without all the smoky effects.

Agree the eye makeup (and makeup in general) is too harsh and aging. She needs a new makeup artist.

The whole outfit looks disconnected to me due. Her styling doesn’t match the dress. She has a deep side part with curls and an elegant emerald choker—a glamorous, old Hollywood look—and then there’s this bright, almost neon green dress which skews more modern. I think she needed to style it differently. It might have worked better if she wore sleek, straight hair and different makeup.

I think this is the right take, but even so looked like a knockout. The only look I really disliked was her Celtics outfit, perhaps because the overly curled hair was so heavy. I would have loved a more casual style court side.

Her makeup has been a long-standing thing. She rarely gets it right and it's been aging her 10+ years since her 20s. At least at night the fully pencil lined eyes in black don't look as out of place as they do generally, but it's still pretty bad. Her mom and sister also lean into that dark eye makeup and it doesn't do any of them any favors. It's exceedingly harsh and that's all the more obvious the older they get.

Do you like the style of any of the royals? I think most of what Kate wears is pretty safe. She took a risk here, so I see why people have mixed opinions, but I am surprised to hear a strong opinion that her style is generally bad. She must have a million coat dresses, can’t say too much either way about those.

I do, actually! I really appreciate royal style in general. The Queen’s clothes were amazing, first of all. I really enjoyed this book https://www.amazon.com/Queen-70-Years-Majestic-Style/dp/1788795261 and Anne’s clothes are great, too. I can’t say that I liked the Queen Mother’s clothes and Camilla’s clothes are neither here nor there for me, but Diana’s clothes were awesome. The one who cannot be named (because flying monkeys descent to attack her in absentia) has had some real hits.

Kate’s clothes are just slightly too bonkers. This green dress was so close but missed it. I will give her that that one gold dress she wore to a premiere of something was OTT in a good way.

Yeah it looked like a job interview outfit - from 1981. Weird choice for that occasion.

I like the green dress but don't quite like it on her, I think. It needed a more exuberant vibe than what we get from such a reserved figure. Though I did like her in that gold dress that one time - I think she can pull off more exciting clothes.

Cut her hair! No way. I think it should be a tad longer, as it was not too long ago. Cutting hair as you age is totally old fashioned.

She definitely needs a haircut. Long long hair is terrible after high school.

NP. I love Kate’s style in general, but I do agree about getting her hair cut. Not short- she has gorgeous hair. But she would look better with a couple inches off. There’s long, then there is too long. Too long is aging in middle age

Years ago someone said on this board that Kate and her sister had eyeliner tattoos back when they were in their 20s. If that’s true it explains why she basically always has heavy eye makeup on. I do agree it’s a little aging.
I don’t hate the Celtics outfit—I think in person it probably read more as jeans and a sweater jacket. Something a little funkier might be more fun but whatever. (Maybe a leather jacket over a black sweater with black jeans?). I don’t get why she always wears those flats though. Booties or sneakers would have looked better with those pants for a fall sporting outing.

Is the eye makeup a UK thing? When I was living there, decades ago, I always marveled at the way young women piled on the eyeliner. Kate would have been at university. At the time it was ubiquitous. Maybe she never moved on?

What’s aging on Kate is her bad eye makeup and her excessive thinness. Not her hair. Cut off a few inches and she’ll just look like a too skinny, heavily made up woman with less of her best feature.

+100000 I think she is hard looking in the face and but she is generally dressed tastefully in classic lines and styles.

Looking hard in the face? No way. She looks like a 40 yr old who takes good care of herself. If anything, considering how thin she is, her face is surprisingly fuller than I would expect
