Good news! You can wear a mask for as long as you want. MCPS will not stop you. Your kid can double up with two KN95 masks if you so choose!

But there is no good reason to make masks mandatory again in public schools.

This...... please. We need to be able to easily identify the brainwashed drones in our society. I especially get a kick out of seeing someone wearing a mask driving alone in their car.

When you see me wearing a mask in my car it's because I'm driving someone with a vulnerable immune system to a doctor appointment, which is something I do regularly now, because people like you are inconsiderate disease vectors.

You drive people to the doctor while driving alone in a mask?

Yes, it's called COVID-19 and it is currently surging. That's why campuses on the east coast are bringing back mask mandates. Google it.

We're off to a rocky start to the new school year.

On Monday, 157 students and 22 staff new infections were reported, with 1,143 infections from of about 174K (160K students plus 14K staff). If you recall from last year, it took a few weeks to reach this type of new infection rate per school (see data below) during the January spike. It is likely that lax school sanitization / distancing / masking, etc. (if occurring at all) is a significant contributing factor.

I don't think you know what the word 'surge' means.

Case per 100k in MoCo:

5/24: 395
7/16: 264
10/7: 80

It means MCPS can't staff school bus routes because drivers are calling in sick.
It means special ed teachers are being pulled to act as subs and can't teach their students.
It means absences are creating stress on the system.
Hopefully you are awake enough to understand that these numbers no longer are up to date as home tests don't get reported.
The lack of staffing speaks for itself.

Nope, just one VERY bored person obsessing over it. The rest of us are here for the entertainment.

No testing, no Covid.

There's only 1 bus driver for 25 bus routes that didn't run today? At least 2,000 kiddos were impacted by the covid pandemic today alone, but that's a joke to you?

Because there is an overall bus driver shortage. They don't have enough to begin with. This is not Covid as much as you'd wish it to be. No one wants to drive a bus.

You're wrong. All the buses were staffed earlier this week. The absences vary from day to day. Monday was horrible. You wish it wasn't covid, but it is.

Actually, there is and as the County Executive noted yesterday, cases in our area are higher right now than they were at the same time last year. There is concern for the winter and if needed, mask mandates will be put back in place.

Who will enforce the mandates?

Of course there is. My kid shouldn't have to get COVID from your kid in order to go to school. One-way masking is better than nothing, but better than that is universal masking.

You will have to convince people that covid is a horrible illness for children.

Good luck.
