Please don’t try to science with OP. Your efforts are futile.

lol. Because if you actually read any of the citations you posted, you'd realize you're an idiot?

"However, most patients have a favorable prognosis"

Do they cause brain damage? How about interfere with circulatory system functions? Covid is a much different animal.

Time to accept what a messed up world we live in and how most people don't care about themselves let alone others.

BQ.1 AND BQ 1.1 SUMMARY:
"previous infections from BA.5 and antibody drugs, including Evusheld and Bebtelovimab, are not sufficient to prevent a BQ.1 infection."
"BQ.1 and BQ.1.1 are both spreading extremely fast in parts of Europe."
"the number of BQ.1.1 infections is doubling every week. That kind of exponential growth will ensure that the variant becomes globally dominant in the short term."

BA.2.75.2 SUMMARY:
“the most neutralization-resistant variant evaluated to date”
"spreading rapidly in Singapore, India and regions of Europe"

XBB SUMMARY:
"combines two different Omicron lines (BJ.1 and BM.1.1.1) to make something so good at evading immunity (from previous infections or vaccines) that it’s close to SARS-CoV-1"
“may trigger a significant immune system escape on a scale never seen before,”
"nearly at the level of the SARS-CoV-1 virus (then known simply as “SARS”) that caused an outbreak in 2003"
"could render the new vaccines relatively useless"

OVERALL:
“Such a rapid and simultaneous emergence of multiple variants with enormous growth benefits is unprecedented,”
“These results suggest that current herd immunity and BA.5 vaccine boosters may not provide broad enough protection against infection.”

VACCINE EFFECTIVENESS:
https://fortune.com/well/2022/10/15/covid-omicron-split-multiple-variants-peaking-different-countries-same-time-scenarios-fall-winter-pandemic-epiidemic-endemic-xbb/
"Singapore has one of the most highly vaccinated populations with 90% 2-shots and 78% boosters"
"this is different because now we have variants with extreme levels of immune evasion, and in any given country, potentially a few that could be in play at the same time."

If your child is 'taking a break from masking' just keep a close eye on the variants that hit this winter. There is also another variant without a lot of data yet that seems to have a few cases in the Northeast U.S., Zeta variant P.2. It is believed to re-infect people who have already had covid.

https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-variant-data

Thankfully, none of these variants (aside from P.2) appear to be taking hold yet in the U.S. I saw a person comment that his computer projection said it would be Spring before the variants took hold in the U.S., but my gut says it will be January again. Just a guess, but I see way too many people not masked and comfortable in close proximity indoors. That's something a computer model may not take into account.

Thanks for posting this PP. it woke me up more than coffee did this morning.

Good news! You can wear a mask for as long as you want. MCPS will not stop you. Your kid can double up with two KN95 masks if you so choose!

But there is no good reason to make masks mandatory again in public schools.

This...... please. We need to be able to easily identify the brainwashed drones in our society. I especially get a kick out of seeing someone wearing a mask driving alone in their car.

Do you also make fun of people who wear sunscreen and seat belts because you know they're just scared of skin cancer or car accidents.

Daily sunscreen is recommended by just about every health entity and seatbelts are, you know, required. Universal masking us only recommended during times of high community levels due to stress on the hospitals. But do what you want bro, mask your kids forever!

Why don't you explain why it makes sense not to wear a mask rn? Be sure to account for all of the data about long COVID and the data we'll eventually have about this wave of strokes and other vascular events in people under 50 in your answer.

Pretending or not, IDK. What I can say is that there's an enormous amount of excess death caused by COVID--life insurance actuaries, who are not known for their alarmism, have been crystal-clear about that--and it's much of it is going to come back to that stuff.

Good luck to you though.

When you see me wearing a mask in my car it's because I'm driving someone with a vulnerable immune system to a doctor appointment, which is something I do regularly now, because people like you are inconsiderate disease vectors.

Huh? What does you driving vulnerable people to the doctor have to do with the inconsiderate among us? Was the person who was driving them previously not masking up for the drive or something? Anyway, unless the people you are driving were lying down in the backseat so they wouldn't be seen, I don't think that's who PP was talking about. I do know of someone who wears a mask in the car in case they are in a car accident and knocked unconscious, or get pulled over by an LEO (cause you don't want to reach in your glove box to get a mask these days I suppose).

I know you don't understand, honey. That's because you've had COVID so much it's made you dumb. Poor thing, it's no longer your fault, I suppose. You don't have the mental capacity left to understand how to avoid disease.

I'm assuming you're continuing with this schtick to entertain yourself at this point.

Thank god it’s a schtick. I’d feel so bad for her and her family if she was serious.
It is pretty amusing, I’ll give her that.

Yes, I'm sure you feel the same about the literary works of Colleen Hoover.

For my youngish kids (my oldest is in 1st grade in MCPS) it’s just not worth it to have them masking all day. Obviously some parents have different cost-benefit calculations and that’s fine. My kids have yet to test positive for Covid, even when DH and I got it over the summer and made zero effort to isolate from them. My guess is they had it at some point but was so mild or asymptomatic that we didn’t know.

"Children with respiratory viruses overwhelm Maryland hospitals, which are running out of beds"

"A surge of young children with respiratory illnesses is overwhelming the state’s hospitals, leaving some seriously sick kids in emergency departments for hours or being transferred to other facilities, including out of state."

"doctors fear a wave of flu and COVID-19 cases in coming weeks because people are again inside mixing at school and other occasions and taking few precautions such as wearing masks."

"Several hospitals report that all pediatric beds and intensive care beds are full. To find space they are turning to other hospitals within their systems, in the state and to those in neighboring states and beyond."

"The Maryland Hospital Association said a fifth of the state’s available beds are without staff, and officials there encouraged families with children who have less urgent medical needs to seek care first from their pediatrician or in an urgent care setting to preserve limited hospital resources for those needing advanced care."

"In Maryland, one in four nursing positions is vacant."

"There are so many cases in Maryland, some days the closest open beds have been in Delaware and even North Carolina and New York, she said, “and no parent wants to send their children that far away.”"

"Viruses were not spreading when everyone was masked. We’ve broken the dam.”

Even more interesting - according to the MD covid dashboard, there's plenty of pediatric and intensive care capacity available.

There is more to the hospitalization than intensive care capacity such as doctors and nurses available on the regular wing. Or availability for regular urgent care appointments.

That must be why Maryland hospitals are sending patients to North Carolina or New York?

"Respiratory viruses"? If its Covid, why not just say that? Or is it the various other viruses going around?

As for the "viruses were not spreading when everyone was masked", IME it was at least partially due to social distancing and stuff being closed. As soon as everyone started going out and about again the viruses started circulating at our daycare too, despite ongoing masking during non-meal/nap times.

Anyone who wants to mask themselves out of every illness from here on out should be free to do so but you can't expect society at large to be on board with that.

Are kids not getting hospitalized at the same rate in those states? I wonder why that is.

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/national-international/national-test-scores-show-historic-covid-setbacks-for-kids-across-us/3919773/

"Across the country, math scores saw their largest decreases ever. Reading scores dropped to 1992 levels. Nearly four in 10 eighth graders failed to grasp basic math concepts. Not a single state saw a notable improvement in their average test scores, with some simply treading water at best....When schools shifted to remote learning, higher performing students were far more likely to have reliable access to quiet spaces, computers and help from their teachers, the survey found."

It's a bad year for RSV too. But I read articles like this and my initial reaction is, well here's a downside of all this masking- too little exposure to common viruses for 2+ years and now it's happening all at once. Whereas others will see this as proof that everyone needs to mask up again. But at some point everyone is going to need to rip that bandaid off.
