Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Time to accept what a messed up world we live in and how most people don't care about themselves let alone others. |
Thanks for posting this PP. it woke me up more than coffee did this morning. |
Why don't you explain why it makes sense not to wear a mask rn? Be sure to account for all of the data about long COVID and the data we'll eventually have about this wave of strokes and other vascular events in people under 50 in your answer. |
Account for the data that has yet to be generated? Is your post you trying to pretend like you're smart? |
Pretending or not, IDK. What I can say is that there's an enormous amount of excess death caused by COVID--life insurance actuaries, who are not known for their alarmism, have been crystal-clear about that--and it's much of it is going to come back to that stuff. Good luck to you though. |
Yes, I'm sure you feel the same about the literary works of Colleen Hoover. |
For my youngish kids (my oldest is in 1st grade in MCPS) it’s just not worth it to have them masking all day. Obviously some parents have different cost-benefit calculations and that’s fine. My kids have yet to test positive for Covid, even when DH and I got it over the summer and made zero effort to isolate from them. My guess is they had it at some point but was so mild or asymptomatic that we didn’t know. |
Pride comes before the fall. Friday, Oct 21, 2022 at 4:54 pm "Children with respiratory viruses overwhelm Maryland hospitals, which are running out of beds" "A surge of young children with respiratory illnesses is overwhelming the state’s hospitals, leaving some seriously sick kids in emergency departments for hours or being transferred to other facilities, including out of state." "doctors fear a wave of flu and COVID-19 cases in coming weeks because people are again inside mixing at school and other occasions and taking few precautions such as wearing masks." "Several hospitals report that all pediatric beds and intensive care beds are full. To find space they are turning to other hospitals within their systems, in the state and to those in neighboring states and beyond." "The Maryland Hospital Association said a fifth of the state’s available beds are without staff, and officials there encouraged families with children who have less urgent medical needs to seek care first from their pediatrician or in an urgent care setting to preserve limited hospital resources for those needing advanced care." "In Maryland, one in four nursing positions is vacant." "There are so many cases in Maryland, some days the closest open beds have been in Delaware and even North Carolina and New York, she said, “and no parent wants to send their children that far away.”" "Viruses were not spreading when everyone was masked. We’ve broken the dam.” https://www.baltimoresun.com/health/bs-hs-respiratory-viruses-overwhelm-maryland-hospitals-20221021-a6paif7yl5egpcijush3lx37ka-story.html |

Even more interesting - according to the MD covid dashboard, there's plenty of pediatric and intensive care capacity available.

There is more to the hospitalization than intensive care capacity such as doctors and nurses available on the regular wing. Or availability for regular urgent care appointments. |
That must be why Maryland hospitals are sending patients to North Carolina or New York?

"Respiratory viruses"? If its Covid, why not just say that? Or is it the various other viruses going around? As for the "viruses were not spreading when everyone was masked", IME it was at least partially due to social distancing and stuff being closed. As soon as everyone started going out and about again the viruses started circulating at our daycare too, despite ongoing masking during non-meal/nap times. Anyone who wants to mask themselves out of every illness from here on out should be free to do so but you can't expect society at large to be on board with that. |
Are kids not getting hospitalized at the same rate in those states? I wonder why that is. |

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/national-international/national-test-scores-show-historic-covid-setbacks-for-kids-across-us/3919773/
"Across the country, math scores saw their largest decreases ever. Reading scores dropped to 1992 levels. Nearly four in 10 eighth graders failed to grasp basic math concepts. Not a single state saw a notable improvement in their average test scores, with some simply treading water at best....When schools shifted to remote learning, higher performing students were far more likely to have reliable access to quiet spaces, computers and help from their teachers, the survey found." |
It's a bad year for RSV too. But I read articles like this and my initial reaction is, well here's a downside of all this masking- too little exposure to common viruses for 2+ years and now it's happening all at once. Whereas others will see this as proof that everyone needs to mask up again. But at some point everyone is going to need to rip that bandaid off. |
