Advanced Academic Programs (AAP)
I am curious.... which group is it, do you think, that misrepresented themselves as economically disadvantaged in order to improve their chances at admission to TJ? |
Butthurt from TJ reform. Raging, disgruntled parents don’t have facts (and seemingly can’t handle math) so they push lies. |
Indian dad here. While I'm not happy with the anti-merit changes to the admissions process, the characterization of our community above with respect to TJ is accurate. |
Or they can just verify which applicants were ED. FCPS has some data - it’s not like they are reporting in general that they have 100% ED families because the meals are available to all students. You should call. |
For months we heard that this was a ploy to increase white enrollment and that URM enrollment would barely budge. When the opposite happened, first it was whites lying about their race. When it was pointed out that race is declared when a student is first enrolled in FCPS, it became whites lying about being poor. People can't accept that the reforms are doing exactly what they were supposed to do- increase URM enrollment, increase geographic diversity, and increase the portion of FARMs students enrolled. |
Exactly. They are attempting to delegitimize the process by making unsupported and unsubstantiated claims about the process not doing what it was intended to do. Most of their claims are essentially non-falsifiable. |
The trouble is, with a clear definition of what "economically disadvantaged" is, you will have families who will do everything in their power to fit themselves into that narrow definition in order to gain an advantage. What's amusing about the comment previous to yours is that folks don't realize that the new admissions process did a huge favor to economically disadvantaged Asian families. It just so happens that the vast majority of those, in this area, are East and Southeast Asian families who live in the areas close to TJ. But go on - keep spouting your nonsense about how these reforms are "anti-Asian" and "racist". |
+1000 i love how quiet this thread gets when someone gets it right |
+1 |
Exactly. Crickets. |
Do you think they don't realize it or do you think they conveniently ignore it because it doesn't suit the narrative? |
I think it's a little bit of both. I see equal parts of astroturf-fueled disinformation and ignorance-driven misinformation coming from the regressive side on these threads. You can tell the difference because the astroturfing that is either coming from Nomani or Jackson or one of their stooges is usually much more polished. |
| The irony is hilarious. TJ reformers were able to get support for anti-education policies by literally promising people a free lunch! |
OK. I'll jump in. The "huge favor" seems like wishful thinking, since the percentage of Asian students admitted dropped considerably and the "areas close to TJ" have the lowest number of Asian kids of any parts of the county. But, I mean, if you have hard data to suggest there's been a big jump in the number of economically disadvantages Asian kids getting into TJ, as opposed to the big decline in the number of economically secure Asian kjds getting admitted, feel free to share. |
Speaking of ignorance-driven misinformation… |
