Be honest. How old are you. How old do you look?

I’m 42 and someone thought DH (48) was my son! This tells me I must look extremely old. I definitely aged several years during covid.

Just turned 53. Ever since my late 20s people have consistently assumed I am 5-8 years younger than I actually am.

I was thinking same thing … we all do this to be polite and brighten others’ days … I sure don’t take it literally when people tell
Me how Much younger I look …

I think it's a sun damage thing. I have seen them as young as 27-30 for the Sun Goddesses.

It is a sun damage. I look my age (48) but I don't have those creases because I've always been religious about sunscreen and avoiding the sun. My dermatologist often comments on it.

I think it’s genetic. I am olive complected and baked in the sun in the 80s. I have the exact same chest creases and facial wrinkle patterns as my lily white mother who is allergic to the sun.

So to me, that basically comes down to the same thing. You had a melanin advantage and baked, and your mother did not and was "allergic to the sun." I mean, it's going to get us all eventually but this points more towards sun being the problem than less.

Wow that is weird. I have had interviewers and doctors tell me since I was 23 about how much younger I look and they still do to this day at age 40. It has only been by professionals who have seen me. 20 somethings assume I am their age.

Nothing. Rock on!

Hmm. I am white but horrible at guessing the ages of African American women. I feel like many African American women reach age thirty five...and then just stay there for like twenty five years. I think a lot of black women in their fifties can pass for thirty five. Way fewer white women can.

I am the black woman who posted the above. You're not the only one with that difficulty. Yesterday I saw a TA whom I assumed was 25-27 max with very pale skin, long red hair flowing to her waist worn over plaid blazer and jeans, a few freckles, and no wrinkles. Imagine my shock when she told the class she had been born in 1977. Not in a million years would I have been able to guess her age. We need a flow chart or something...Do fingers show creasing or age spots? If no, check ankles.

People think my son is my boyfriend. He’s 17.

Ew. How awkward for your poor son.

Most people look their age. Most people these days are obese and they look past their age. Some people have truly baby faces and it’s not a great thing. I’d rather look my age but really good at it. That should be the goal. We’re allowed to get older.

33 and everyone thinks I'm about 24! I've looked about ten years younger since I hit my mid 20s

I've noticed a lot of very pale redheads seem to age super well, presumably because they figured out they should avoid the sun early on due to always burning. So they never went through a stage of laying out tanning for hours a day like most white people and they wore sunscreen and everything.

When white people take care of their skin they can age really well. They just need to use the correct sun protection to make up for the melanin

I’m 67. For some reason my skin doesn’t wrinkle. I’m a bit plump so my face stays full. Genetics. I mentioned to the contractor that i had grown kids at 45. The look of shock in his face when he did the math. So yes I do look younger. Never smoked or drank much. But really it’s genetics. Parents the same way. Mom still beautiful at 80.
