Because rich lawyers make too much. https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/dc/new-report-virginia-dc-teacher-pay-ranks-last-country/65-72f34f95-ca7d-4707-9c77-fc413a50105e |
I am going with teachers unions. Parents shouldn’t be telling schools what to teach. I am so done with this era where everyone thinks they know more than experts. |
But isn't it great for the teachers to make more $$? They deserve a better pay. This administration spent all the billions on their questionable political contracts, not on teachers. |
+1 |
Yeah one an equity guy and the other one who made money by shady business practices and was being federally investigated. |
The comparison was average teacher pay to average state pay. It's because Loudon County is the highest HHI county in the country for most of the past couple decades... |
Which teachers unions would those be in Virginia? Just curious. |
Exactly. What has the last year taught us? “Doing your own research” is crap. ![]() |
Teachers' unions are not experts. Teachers unions are out to promote themselves--not the teachers and not the schools, and definitely not the students. signed: Experienced Teacher who learned this in my first year of teaching. Never saw anything over the years to change my mind. |
Yes, I know--you are pointing out that teachers unions are not in Virginia. You are very naive if you do not realize that the School Boards listen to the organizations, associations, unions or whatever you wish to call them. In Fairfax County, Kimberly Adams has been the president of the Fairfax Education Association. She has the ear of the School Board and they listen to her. Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers has strong ties in the White House. She has been very involved in CDC decisions which are followed in Virginia. In the state of Virginia, teachers' unions are now allowed to collective bargain with the school systems. FCPS School Board has already announced that they will begin collective bargaining this School Year. Teachers' unions are poison. They are out for themselves--not the teachers and not the students. |
NP. The same experts who demanded schools be closed in August 2020 and subjected thousands of students to essentially no education for over a year? How do you make up being in some cases, a year behind? It's not like you can go to school double time. We're now finding out that these kids are also stunted emotionally and violent behavioral incidents at school are greater than normal. Who knows how many of these kids were abused while at home for months on end. I feel particularly bad for the poorest of the poor (inner city) that nobody ever mentions. Do you really think those kids were dutifully logging onto Google meet daily? Those kids are gone forever. And look, as a taxpayer, I do think I should have done say in what is taught to my children at school. The current offering is garbage filled with the latest fad in education and some fluff. Lucy Calkins anyone? They need to get back to tried and true basics- reading, writing and 'rithmetic. |
