Who was “Jelleff”? Let’s just name it Maret Field — or the Jack Evans Sports Center if you prefer. |
Excellent. Only the Maret kids whose parents pay DC taxes can use Jelleff. Guess the Md and Va residents can’t be on Maret teams. That will free up at least half of the Jelleff field for actual DC kids. Good idea. |
Maret boosters are just hopeless. The vapid, tone-deaf, self-contradictory arguments just keep coming. I’m not sure exactly what their goal is here, but they look worse and worse as this thread grows. |
+1. 40% of Maret’s student body come from MD and VA and their parents aren’t paying DC taxes (similar to Maret with its nonpayment of property taxes.) |
+1. But the Maret families won’t ever understand that there are other underprivileged people in this city who could be using a Jelleff. All they care about is that if they keep their costs low at $95,000/year for Jelleff they won’t have to pay a higher tuition that would be necessary if they paid a market price for a fuel. So they can buy more Chanel handbags! |
LOL Georgetown is so poor. |
https://thedcline.org/2019/12/18/following-jelleff-fight-burleith-bristles-over-districts-plans-to-upgrade-a-nearby-field-to-regulation-size/ Peak Hours??? 3:30-5:30 pm. Looks like Hardy can use the field during school. Lots of false info being spread by the Hardy crowd. |
LOL reading comprehension is so hard. |
They have classes during school. After school is when sports teams play and practice. Let's turn it around: why can't Maret just use the field during the day and let Hardy use it after school? Wouldn't that solve everything? |
If Hardy needs another field then they can move their booty a couple of blocks down the street to Ellington. A PP recommended that Hardy could build a much larger field on its own site. I walked by there on Friday and there is definitely room to reconfigure the site for a bigger field with a track. |
Have you not read the articles about the community opposition to expanding use of Ellington? I imagine not, since Maret parents are pretending not to have read the umpteen articles about community opposition to their backroom deal to hog a public park. |
Umm... what sports teams practice or play games during school hours? Maybe Maret should have their sports teams practice during school hours or at midnight. |
Maret has a chip on its shoulder because it doesn’t like people pointing out that it can’t afford a field of its own like the top tier DC private schools can. |
How about Maret practice at Ellington then! (and convert their own parking lot to a baseball field also) Or find a less privileged neighborhood they can go buy out ... since that seems to be their strategy (now that the area around Jellef is aware of the deal & pushing back)... |
Yeah, why not ? Maret then could pay to renovate a second major DC asset because the District’s leaders are wasting the tax money instead on crony consultants and sham 8a contracts. |
