That's true. I guess she could have meant, click on the boundary tool, educate yourself, and then leave feedback by contacting FCPS. But there is no contact information on who to reach out to on the boundary tool site. |
Well, technically, Centreville and Chantilly are Sandy's schools. She sure wanted to manipulate the Lewis/WSpringfield area. She could do this without losing votes. Westfield people are not her constituents, but they might point out the unfairness of moving those apts in Centreville to Westfield and Chantilly Mews to Westfield. She could make an amendment to move all of the Walney area to include Walney Oaks and eliminate the move of Chantilly Mews. As for the Centreville neighborhoods, they could certainly move a portion of Bull Run since it is already a split feeder. |

1. The 77 BRES apartment kids should be moved back to Centreville since they are much closer to CVHS than WFHS.
2. The two far northern/western BRES SPAs should be moved to Stone/Westfield since they are far away from both HS. 3. The Cub Run split/Walney Village should stay at Westfield (WO should be moved too but that ship has sailed). 4. The CHS walkers should be moved back to CHS and sent to RRMS. |
At present, Centreville has the lowest program capacity of any high school in the county, excluding temporary structures. It's in an area slated for future growth, and nearby areas instead are part of an attendance island that goes to Fairfax. Expanding CVHS during its upcoming renovation would be sound planning for the future, regardless of any short-term declines in enrollment in FCPS. They actually will be directing Reid to come back by the end of August with a recommendation as to how to proceed with the renovation and whether scope modifications are warranted. But it would be short-sighted to shelve any expansion at all. |
Incorrect. According to the Skyview map, Lewis is lower, and McLean is the same. I didn't click through every school. Where are you getting your facts? |
Its strange to me that you are arguing and insisting that Centreville is so impossibly small, yet also arguing that no students should be moved out to alleviating the crowding in this tiny dollhouse school. Doesn't make sense. |
I suspect that just means a handful of Westfield parents are responding to some of her Facebook posts. The Westfield parents don't seem that engaged IRL. There's a School Board meeting tomorrow and not a single speaker appears to be a Westfield parent. Two of the speakers are regulars who signed up to talk about FCPS Pride. They speak all the time so if someone new was trying to speak it seems like they would have gotten priority. Maybe more people will sign up for the public hearing in July. |
I emailed both Seema and Sandy and neither replied, not even a form letter. |
That's because they are telling people to sign up to talk at the special public hearing about the boundaries. I don't think most people would be told that and then go to a random SB meeting. |
She doesn't really have any comments on her facebook posts, LOL. |
If it were over 105% we might have a different discussion. All you want to do is shrink a school that's already small because you want more MC/UMC moved back into Westfield. Right now the Falls Church renovation is wrapping up. At the HS level, Skyview and Centreville can and should be their top two priorities. Short-change CVHS now and it won't get attention for another 40 years. |
| Interesting that Seema and Sandy aren't allowing any public conversations on their facebook pages on this topic. |
Agree. And, i don't live in that area. But, i do know people in Hampton Forest who have to go to Fairfax when Centreville is so close. But, that does not mean that more Bull Run students should not be sent to Westfield. The first 17:00 suggestion makes sense. Send Bull Run kids north and west to Westfield. Keep those apts in Centreville at Centreville. Send Walney area at Cub Run to Westfield. I would add that Walney Oaks should also go. Someone should ask at the public meeting why they were left out. Keep Chantilly Mews at Chantilly |
She does on one of the FB sites that's a larger FCPS discussion page. |
I don't see how its important to prioritize expanding a school when there is so much excess capacity at Westfield, South Lakes and Herndon. A modest renovation to update important systems seems prudent and appropriate. |
