New Additions to Leagues Check Up (ECNL & GA)

Anonymous
Anyone getting the idea that ECNL is going to align with USL?

USL has implemented Pro/Rel. first league to do that in the US.

FTL United (ECNL) has announced pathway to USL…

I think GA/MLSN - MLS and ECNL - USL.

Going to be interesting how this plays out.

anyone else think these leagues are too full of themselves and trying to be all cute with these announcements? People want to know where they will be playing next year so they can recruit based off of that.

Personally we are leaving our current club (nothing against them) because we want to have some stability for next year. A club that moves from ECNL to GA or from NAL/DPL to GA or ECRL to ECNL will look a lot different next year in the 2014-2010 age groups. I just want to be sure my kid has a spot in a club at the level she wants to play at

This discussion may end up deserving it's own thread...it's an interesting thought. I can only speak on what I see in the local market here in Richmond, but there continues to be a pretty strong tie with the Richmond United ENCL boys squad and the Richmond Kickers USL1 team. A coach on the pro side is tied to RU side and is setup specifically as a liaison with the goal of guiding the players on their next steps whether it's college or signing pro. The USL1 club regularly signs local players to development contracts and a few to pro contracts as well and last year formed a USL Academy team (I think that's U20) that did really well. So, I think that you are seeing that come to fruition here.

For the women's side, RU just announced this week that they created a similar position on with the USL-W sporting director taking a similar role that exist on the boy's side with the older girls teams to aid in their overall development. Their USL-W team was new last year and had a small group of RU players train with them throughout the summer. I hope that continues.

I'm all in favor of setting up a true pyramid of promotion and relegation here in the US with clear avenues for player growth and development. It won't happen overnight, but in my opinion, the path that USL is on seems to be the right one.

Correct. And that is until MLSnext decides to take over USL.

I'm sure this is not just in Midwest (and i know this is not a MW forum, but there is no MW forum) ... but what are some of these clubs thinking?

ECNL-RL makes a new conference for MI teams (they have made few of these as discussed on in this thread)...but they make one in MI and the MI Rangers and Legends join (previously E64).

Midwest United goes to GA. They also announced a partnership with MI Rangers for this.

Yesterday, USYS announces their new E64 (named Club P1)... in Midwest Rangers and Legends (they were not on graphic but they will be in the league) and Midwest United are in that.

So these they are likely going to be in multiple leagues - which happens. But even worse, if they put their 3rd teams in this league then USYS has an even worse issue on their hands. What is the point of announcing and being excited as a club (say Rangers) about the partnership to GA with Midwest United, then a month later being excited about getting into ECNL-RL and then two weeks later show your back in E64 as well.

I have not looked at the other conferences, but I'm assuming this is happening a few other places as well.

I think you will see more of this as clubs don’t want to go 100% in on ECNL or GA/MLSN as either can crumble in a year.

Clubs want to have their hands in every jar, to have something to fall back on.
