Anyone getting the idea that ECNL is going to align with USL? USL has implemented Pro/Rel. first league to do that in the US. FTL United (ECNL) has announced pathway to USL… I think GA/MLSN - MLS and ECNL - USL. Going to be interesting how this plays out.
This discussion may end up deserving it's own thread...it's an interesting thought. I can only speak on what I see in the local market here in Richmond, but there continues to be a pretty strong tie with the Richmond United ENCL boys squad and the Richmond Kickers USL1 team. A coach on the pro side is tied to RU side and is setup specifically as a liaison with the goal of guiding the players on their next steps whether it's college or signing pro. The USL1 club regularly signs local players to development contracts and a few to pro contracts as well and last year formed a USL Academy team (I think that's U20) that did really well. So, I think that you are seeing that come to fruition here. For the women's side, RU just announced this week that they created a similar position on with the USL-W sporting director taking a similar role that exist on the boy's side with the older girls teams to aid in their overall development. Their USL-W team was new last year and had a small group of RU players train with them throughout the summer. I hope that continues. I'm all in favor of setting up a true pyramid of promotion and relegation here in the US with clear avenues for player growth and development. It won't happen overnight, but in my opinion, the path that USL is on seems to be the right one.
Florida Elite (FESA) in ECNL boys and girls. Club has a USL team called Sporting Jax Club. Florida Elite (FESA) just rebranded their ECNL club and now the ECNL boys and girls will be called Sporting Club Jax to align with their USL team. so maybe
Wonder if Jacksonville FC will be renamed Jacksonville Armada
