How would you compare it to Wisconsin, Florida and Maryland for general academics and student experience? DC is oos for all schools listed, so looking for more than the "whatever school is cheapest" post.

My DD ruled out two of these schools after visiting. The visits really helped. I think she is going to choose UGA.

Why UGA?

Wants a college town, large rah rah school with a lot going on. Wants a school that is somewhat selective. Prefers weather there to some other schools.

Did she find that Athens is a better college town than Madison?

Yes. She preferred Athens. Madison is larger and she didn’t like that the capitol was right near campus. She doesn’t love cities and it had a more urban feel.

Does UGA offer merit like Alabama?

I don't think they are nearly as generous with merit aid for out of state students.

No. They do but it’s very limited and the amount is much smaller than Alabama. It’s a much harder school to get into so I assume they don’t need to offer much.

Is it so good that people pay full tuition?

Has Georgia been steadily climbing for the last few years? Do you think they will continue to attract strong students and move up in the rankings? We're new to the college search, and I am admittedly surprised by the acceptance rates of schools that were not on my radar as being super selective.

I notice Georgia does not get as many applications (still a lot!) as some of the other schools in the South, like Tennessee or Florida, but their admitted and enrolled students have generally impressive stats. Any idea why?

UGA requires testing.

The OOS tuition is less than at many schools (including ones that aren’t as well regarded).

OOS acceptance rate was 25% this year

Florida less southern and lots of Jewish people if that's what you want or are Jewish. It attracts NY NJ more. TN easier to get into than UGA but seems to be changing each year so prob irrelevant soon!

Florida politics is affecting FL higher education. TN is not the same caliber as UGA.
