This is what I am seeing too. My kid was WL at UVA but in at UGA, OOS for both. Got large scholarship at South Carolina but doesn’t want to go there. Has many friends who would love SC but were either deferred or didn’t receive a scholarship. I think all of these large schools have gotten more and more competitive to get into.

Same my DS got In-state tuition at SC! But would choose UGA over it (got a little money from there too)

You're reminding me that my nephew was rejected at top choice W and heading to UGA (and trying to convince himself that Athens will be ok, even though he loved Madison).

Any new opinions or input on UGA? After reading through this conversation, it seems like a great college town with a good mix of bright students. How would you compare it to Wisconsin, Florida and Maryland for general academics and student experience? DC is oos for all schools listed, so looking for more than the "whatever school is cheapest" post.

Academics are on par with every school listed. Athens is by far the best college town on the list making UGA the best choice.

The order in which I'd like to attend these schools (holding aside location): Wisconsin, Georgia, Maryland, Florida. The order in which I'd like to live in these places: Madison, Athens, Gainesville, College Park. So I'd obviously go Wisconsin and then Georgia (with a pretty big gap separating those two from UMD and UF). But who cares? It's not my choice/life. If you don't like the cold, your order will be different. If you think DeSantis has been good for public education in Florida, your order will be different. If you want to be a Metro ride away from DC, your order will be different. These are personal decisions.

UF is ranked #28 per latest USnews and #1 public university according to Wall Street Journal. I know rankings can be wonky but the dcurban crowd seems obsessed with these things.

The ranking is also apparent in how incredibly selective UF has become in the last fews years- this year in particular. I know of several NMF who got denied. UF claims to be holistic.
