No. They do but it’s very limited and the amount is much smaller than Alabama. It’s a much harder school to get into so I assume they don’t need to offer much.

Is it so good that people pay full tuition?

Has Georgia been steadily climbing for the last few years? Do you think they will continue to attract strong students and move up in the rankings? We're new to the college search, and I am admittedly surprised by the acceptance rates of schools that were not on my radar as being super selective.

I notice Georgia does not get as many applications (still a lot!) as some of the other schools in the South, like Tennessee or Florida, but their admitted and enrolled students have generally impressive stats. Any idea why?

Florida less southern and lots of Jewish people if that's what you want or are Jewish. It attracts NY NJ more. TN easier to get into than UGA but seems to be changing each year so prob irrelevant soon!

Florida politics is affecting FL higher education. TN is not the same caliber as UGA.

But why do both schools get more apps than GA?

I personally think UGA suffers from its large percentage of in-state students. It turns off lots of potential OOS students.

How so? The school has no trouble filling its 20% allotment for OOS students.

I was speaking of the hard number of applications.

Friends of my kid's who applied to places like South Carolina, didn't bother applying to UGA because they know they won't get in (given both required test scores and 25% OOS acceptance rate). Also, UGA has a supplemental essay unlike some of the schools they applied to.

Where do the South Carolina kids apply?

Do you mean what other schools do students who apply to U of SC apply to? I think places like Delaware, Delaware, UConn, Coastal Carolina. UMD (bc we are in state) and Salisbury.

This isn't accurate at all. UofSC's average GPA is above 4.0

What? I’m talking about actual kids I know and where they applied. I didn’t mention GPA. I don’t know their GPA.

The schools listed are not academic peers for UofSC other than UMD. Maybe UofSC was a reach for those kids.

UofSC is not highly regarded other than their excellent honors college. It’s not a peer to UGA.

These kids got into UofSC but no merit. Rejected from UMD. In at their other schools with merit.

You might have missed UofSC, Tennessee and Auburn quietly becoming much more competitive over the last few years. Try to keep up.

I’ve kept up. My kid is a senior this year and applying to these schools. These three have become more competitive but they are not as competitive as UGA.

Sure. From public schools with massive grade inflation. This stat means nothing.

You could make the same argument for UF and their inflated recalculation methods.

Yes, but they are far more competitive than say Alabama or Ole Miss.

I agree. But these kids didn’t apply to Alabama or Ole Miss. (the ones I am referring to who applied to U of SC and not UGA). One got into U of SC with no merit but UConn with merit. Another was waitlisted at SC but in at Delaware. So I agree that U of SC is not super easy. On the other hand, my student got into U of SC with significant merit etc, and in at UGA with no merit.
