When DCUM was wrong ..

I have no affiliation with this school, but it's clear to me that this person had a kid rejected. Otherwise, why would would even care enough to be so mad?

There's a different Williams hater (also Pomona hater, and general SLAC hater, and Chicago hater, etc) who thinks nobody gets in. I mean, nobody is yelling that nobody gets into Harvard. Yeah, these are schools that take 1 out of every 10 or 20 kids. You're not breaking news .. no need to say this every single post.

You can’t not name the college and name all these other colleges, rightly or wrongly. Be consistent: Midd.

it was so mean and personal. And hey, I didn't give my kid any advice. Anyway, they got into Williams ED.

Did the poster really say this or is that what you translated it as? Even Williams AOs tell people on tours that ED offers no advantage. Anyhow, you need to develop a thicker skin. And, to the extent the poster really did say that, congratulations: your “Ha! I told you so” just outs you as that poster’s twin. Which of you twins is the evil one, I can only guess.

hardly

Why do I get the sense this is just a “Mean Girl” thread?

There are a few bullies here, yes.

they view this and zero sum even if they don't have a kid in the same applicant pool. if their kid didn't get in three years ago, nobody ever gets in. if their kid is applying this year, they discourage others. if they can't afford it, nobody should afford it.

it brings out the meanest instincts in people.

Feelings hurt?

OP correct. I recognized it was just a not nice person, but it was a vulnerable moment and I thought, well, that wasn't what I needed to read right now. Felt unnecessary and mean and I guess my feelings were hurt and it was harder than expected to brush off. These are our kids, afterall. And, as I said, I think it's weird that I still think about that one poster when I look at this forum. I have one more kid to get through the process and I wish there was a place to post anonymously about questions and not get jumped on. Maybe there is, but I haven't found it.

Not exactly the same, but for my first post here around a situation with preK, I got absolutely awful advice and a few really rude responses. The advice contradicted some IRL guidance I got, which I thankfully followed. Everything worked out fine. The real people I spoke to were right, DCUM was wrong.

I was really naive about DCUM back then, and stupidly thought I’d get some actual help and insight. You can find good info here, but it’s often like finding diamonds in a pile of crap. I wouldn’t make any real-life moves based solely on what people here say, at all.

TBF, even Williams admissions actively discourages unhooked applicants from applying ED, but congrats to your kid!

Dp, but I think op is doing people a favor by reporting back on what happened. I am sure there are some parents here who don’t realize how off-base the responses on here can be. A dose of reality is a good thing.

I visit DCUM only to marvel at the narcissistic parenting. These parents make college admissions (and everything else their kid does) all about them. It can be jaw dropping how dysfunctional and weird and sad it is to read. It's utterly fascinating.

There are a few posters here who provide really helpful advices. Not chance me, not prediction, but on what things to do to improve your chance. They wrote long posts detailing the action items. You don't have to follow the exact action items, but nonetheless you got inspired by their suggestions.

Why wasn’t this done as a response to the offensive post in the original thread? Let’s see the post and the back and forth. I don’t like to assume anything, especially when OP’s ill intent is here on full display.

My favorite is when DCUM posters immediately insist kids with 3.0-3.5 GPAs, and more average learning profiles, should pursue community college (as if they have no alternative options). Anyway, congrats to your student on their acceptance to Williams!

Congrats are in order if OP is willing to help future Williams apps. Why do you think your unhooked kid got into Williams ED, OP? Absent that, congrats are never in order for snark.

Congrats OP but you so no better with your safety school comment.

Or U Richmond.

Or Juniata.

Or the W&M v UVA contingent.

Or any number of other schools that routinely get dumped on here despite the posters clearly having no actual experience with the school, just some weird hangup.

Huh? The safety school comment is what she was told when she originally posted her DC's profile. So vile!

Yet another reason OP needs to quote the original posts she is responding to so we can see. The fact that has not happened tells me that OP may be exaggerating. Tut, tut.
