When DCUM was wrong ..

Anonymous
Honest posters get it wrong all the time, and then other posters deliberately lie and say things to confuse others.

DCUM was not wrong. DCUM is a platform that anybody can post on. A random person who might have given no serious thought to their post (or even posted in bad faith) and forgot about it five minutes later was wrong.

Yeah but that describes the entire platform all of the time.

Or some honest stuff you won't find anywhere else - so being able to weigh the extremes is important. Places like this serve a vital role today.

Congrats to OP’s DS!

It would be great if OP could share stats in a non-identifying way. I’m curious who gets into Williams. My unhooked DS ED’d and was admitted to another NESCAC this cycle, and we saw Williams as a bridge too far.

This is so true; I come on this forum and I think my 3.5 GPA child is like Lenny from Of Mice and Men, the way everyone on this board has someone gunning for an Ivy, and then go on the fb group “colleges for awesomely average kids”, and I think my kid’s a genius. It is good to get multiple perspectives.

LOL, I have felt the exact same way, and this made me chuckle. Thank you.

Congrats, OP!!!!

Congrats OP. I was told same of DD applying ED to Swarthmore. A whole breakdown of how it’s mostly athletes and institutional priorities blah blah. A “waste of an ED.” I mean maybe that’s true but my kid got in.

With a sign off like, hope your kid likes their safety because that's where they'll end up because you gave your kid terrible advice.

it was so mean and personal. And hey, I didn't give my kid any advice. Anyway, they got into Williams ED.

Congratulations, OP!! Williams is an amazing school!

So, why do you think kid got in? Or, are you about gloating and not helping?

NP. There was a long thread about not getting into UVA if you didn't take a foreign language senior year. DD got in last week with no foreign language. Just one example to add.

Both of these things can be true. Do you really think posters are saying that literally not a single student ever gets in absent four years of a foreign language? Is the example to add that sometimes stupid people do not follow good advice, and it still works out for them? That does not make them any less stupid, just stupid and lucky.
