it's weird that I still think about the poster who told me my unhooked kid had zero chance to get into Williams. And applying ED was the dumbest thing she'd ever heard of. With a sign off like, hope your kid likes their safety because that's where they'll end up because you gave your kid terrible advice.
it was so mean and personal. And hey, I didn't give my kid any advice. Anyway, they got into Williams ED. |
There are a few bullies here, yes. |
| oh, I think DCUM is more wrong than not |
| Woohoo! Congrats OP! |
they view this and zero sum even if they don't have a kid in the same applicant pool. if their kid didn't get in three years ago, nobody ever gets in. if their kid is applying this year, they discourage others. if they can't afford it, nobody should afford it. it brings out the meanest instincts in people. |
Yeah, there’s a lot of cope. It’s so clear that the reason people insist kids need some exceptional, unusual credential to get into top schools is because they want to be able to explain why their smart, well-rounded kid didn’t get in—it must be because schools don’t want smart, well-rounded kids! They want unicorns! No: they want all sorts of kids, and they just didn’t pick yours. That’s very hard for people to accept! |

I don't think that people are purposefully mean but are just sharing their experience although no-one's experience is truly predictive of anyone else's. Things change every year, they change between schools and between kids.
I have shared some doomsday stuff on here that might come off as being a jerk but it was honestly our experience and things that I wish I had known or considered. |
| Congrats, but the whole point of this post seems like you want to brag. An accomplishment your DC should be proud of nonetheless, but just giving you an external read. |
+100 |
Yep. This is so true. A poster relentlessly harassed me because my kid got in ED2 to Chicago while the poster's DC didn't. Saying all this BS about it being "easy" to get in etc etc. |
Love this. Congrats! |

Yes, people on here are wrong all the time, or at best they overgeneralize.
Ignore all "no one is getting in unhooked" garbage. A school may be hard to get into. But basic numerical literacy tells you that some people are getting in unhooked. Congrats to your DC! |
You realize why some posters post what they do, don't you? |
I hate those posters. They never provided any real advice, only fictional anecdata and the most vile comments! |

I won't even mention the name of the college, but I swear there is a parent here who puts this college into the search bar and then just trashes it, no matter what.
I have no affiliation with this school, but it's clear to me that this person had a kid rejected. Otherwise, why would would even care enough to be so mad? There's a different Williams hater (also Pomona hater, and general SLAC hater, and Chicago hater, etc) who thinks nobody gets in. I mean, nobody is yelling that nobody gets into Harvard. Yeah, these are schools that take 1 out of every 10 or 20 kids. You're not breaking news .. no need to say this every single post. |
