I find it very odd that you are posting the ECs of someone at your child’s high school!!!! I’m sure their parents would be delighted to read this !! |
It’s very popular in affluent suburbs in major metro areas (Scarsdale, Wilmette, etc) where kids want “rah rah” culture with strong academics and reputation. Plus there a lot of legacies across the country whose kids apply. Additionally, it’s very sought for in-state students since it’s a great deal and the state of Michigan doesn’t have any big, private universities. |
If true, and let’s say all Americans, they just raised 7.5MM dollars doing nothing. Go Blue! Almost 8MM dollars to weed out the Ivy safety school applicants. |
You are correct. These were the total numbers for last year. Sorry. |
Does this not describe every state school ever? |
That's for last year, EA and RD combined. The question is about ED apps specifically, since this is the first year UMich has ever offered ED. The data probably won't be released until next summer, so we certainly don't know yet if the number of ED apps is "massive" as another poster claimed. |
They have been getting that number each year since COVID basically. It is a popular school, arguably the best combination of academics and big time sports/school spirit in the country. |
UT? Cal? UCLA? UNC? UVA? |
| I’m curious how many ED apps they received and what percent were in-state. If I was in-state, I would really encourage my kid to apply ED since it’s so cheap compared to privates and they offer free tuition to those who make less than 125k. |
UT, UNC, and to a lesser extent, Cal annd UCLA accept anyone OOS. UVA athletics can’t compare to Big 10 sports. |
Don't quote me, but I think I saw on some college counseling blog that Michigan has already received 70k apps and they are well on their way to setting a record this year. Not sure how many split between ED and EA. I agree that in-state makes sense, but their OOS tuition is almost as high as any private school. |
| Not great publicity lately. Really overrated large school with horrible weather. |
Then again, so is UC Boulder. For the price, I'd choose Michigan. I think it would be a great college experience and a great town to be in. |
| MY DD heard 22k ED apps this year. Take with a grain of salt. Seems low. |
Across the board, ED has been a bloodbath this year. So many rejections! |
