Oh true irony. Tournaments are the ultimate fool’s gold.

FCV Recruiter Dad is the epitome of this.

Lol worst offenders are the moms. Our DD’s team is totally a moms’ thing. Maybe one or two dads show up and service drinks while the moms have at it. I remember one girl was demoted and they just ripped into the girl and the family. Guess going to a spin class makes you a great athlete.

Am I simply underestimating the size of my fan club? I do appreciate the love!

I've been reading the threads that appear to have some substance. (I really think there should be a sub-forum explicitly for U13+ ECNL/GA/MLSNext elite youth soccer. I'd bet that the rest of this space would be bearable, if that happens.)

Beyond that, my sparse posts haven't garnered any further responses. I guess folks don't want to hear/believe that college scholarship money for soccer and other non-revenue sports could go to zero in a few years. At that point, will ECNL vs. GA or whatever even matter anymore?

...

Anyway, ... no parents got tossed from the Virginian U13 matches I observed. It was already too cold and wet to get even more agitated.

As the nepotism thread suggested, it does seem that SYC may have cherry-picked the divisions and brackets to give their teams the easiest paths. It's their tournament, so your only real choice is to never come back. As a result, SYC took the title in the top U13 division. However, that finish probably says more about BRYC ECNL than it does about SYC's top team. (Hey, SYC! Why don't you have you best teams play up next tournament? Just a thought!)

It would have been nice if the top division had an even number of teams, so that there could have been true semi-final matches (A1 v. B2 and B1 v. A2). The A3 v. B3 "consolation" match seems pointless ... and conveniently ended in a draw. Now, how are we going to determine who finished in 5th place?!?!?! Rock, Paper, Scissors?

SYC did play its top team in U13 girls upper division in this tournament and they were the strongest team in that division, which was expected given the level of competition. They won't be as strong next year, because the top players are moving to McLean ECNL. I agree regarding the weird structure of the bracket. The consolation game was pointless, but I guess they needed to give an extra game to the last place team from the three team bracket.

Sure they cheated in a meaningless end of the year tournament. Come the fall a few people will remember this as the cold and rain tournament. They are a good team and have been for most of the year. The strange thing is SYC beat ECNL and GA teams but are ranked behind them. It just goes to show what a load of crap the ranking are.

the question is, if you are SYC, do you want a nearly guaranteed trophy, or do do you want your players to be challenged by playing up a year
