They still train as DA...just playing in EDP for the time being.

So this will take the place of the NE Pre-academy league? http://www.nationalpremierleagues.com/northeast-pre-academy-league

No, read the press release. It is for U16. Now could this then develop into a regional pre-academy league for the GDA clubs? Maybe, but for now it is being set up specifically because the clubs would like an attractive option to keep those girls on who do not make the combined U16/17 team.

This will, in all likelihood be a one year only thing until ussf splits out u16 and u17 next year. It is merely a way to keep the bottom half of this combined age group in the system and paying dues. Where is moneygrab guy.

And why would USSF split out the u16/17 age groups next year or in the future? Combined ages have been a part of the DA since it started.

I think there are a few reasons. It helps keep up clubs revenue streams relative to ecnl (one of several clubs early complaints) and it keeps late bloomers in the system a little longer. I think there is a u16 pilot program this year already, which may be a precursor to widespread adoption.

Seriously, you folks have access to ECNL (McLean, Loudon, VDA and BRYC) and DA (Arlington, WS and FCV). Folks in MD are struggling. Bethesda is the only club serving MoCo and NW Washignton. WS is a logistical nightmare (practices at SoccerPlex and in HoCo/BaCo. MUFC serces everyone else. If not for the disaster that is the AL bridge, most of us would check out the VA clubs and some do but stop your complaining. You have so many options it is insane and I am tired of the complaints.

+1

Good rant

But please be happy with your myriad lacrosse options over there.

They have a dearth of good public Universities compared to VA as well. Maybe you should just move...

What is MUFC? yes, if you are deterred by traffic, you're not GDA material in MD

It is interesting, and he's clearly a bright and thoughtful guy. I especially appreciate that he entered the USSF presidency election before the men failed to qualify for the World Cup.

That being said, his description of what the boys' DA was like for his kids and their friends is not at all like the very positive experience we've had with our sons in DA. I'd add too that the Boston Bolts teams we've seen are among the most obnoxious we've encountered. Parents are loud mouths, kids are trash-talkers, and it's an ugly, physical style of play for the most part. I wonder if he'd have the same reservations about DA if he and his family had been at a better club?

Another if Mike Woitalla's long line of DA criticism. I don't know what he would write about if there wasn't the DA these days. Oh wait, he would probably be bemoaning the fact that US Soccer wasn't offering some top down solution!

Anyway, Gans' candidacy was a joke and it is just like so many other people who confuse their anecdotal experience for the experience of everyone else.

So his kids and some of his teammates were burned out. So was I at the end of my senior year of HS, and I had played both club and for a competitive HS program. Lots of kids reach that point and are burned out, no matter what league or competition or level they are playing. This is not a DA issue, its called being a kid.

As for his complaints about adopting the FIFA sub rules, that's just dumb and has nothing to do with "fun." If that's what was really bugging his kids, go and play rec ball.

I don't understand why a lot of people complains about sub rule of DA. I like it much more than "unlimited sub".

The complaint is that it limits playing time for players. The upside is you are playing FIFA standards, it real soccer where most starters need to endure 90+ minutes. Downside is that it hurts development for bottom 7-8 on the roster. The right answer is probably somewhere in between at least at the younger ages.

Will Bethesda be losing some of their best Blue U-12 players to the DA? I had thought probably so, but with the grousing about the commute above ...
