Nope. But they did put themselves out in the public eye wanting to take 2nd amendment rights from individuals that were not involved with this shooting. The Covington kids were waiting for their bus, when accosted by racist black Israelites and a lying, N.A. with a criminal record. |

DP here. My father also served two tours in Vietnam. He didn't have it as rough as your father. Sorry you lost your dad like that. It must have been hard on your you, your mother, and your siblings. I am disgusted by Mr. Phillips. Not just because he lied about his service, but because I believe that his lies after this incident caused more harm to be brought to the teens. I fully believe that he provoked this whole incident. I don't believe the story he told about why he approached the boys to begin with. And, he continues to lie. He talks about how poorly Native Americans are treated by non-Natives. Yet, his actions and his total lack of character do nothing to make Americans think better of the Native Americans. And, he doesn't get that. Many Americans have very little contact with Native Americans. So, they see Mr. Phillips as an example of Native Americans. He is a poor example. I find that sad and troubling. I voted for Trump. I don't classify him quite as you do. I don't like many of the things he says, but I am happy with most of what he has done. I am not judging him for his deferments. I didn't judge Clinton or Bush for theirs. I am opposed to the draft. In my opinion, if you do not want to serve, we don't want you there. Joining the military is honorable and for some people, it is a great experience. But, not if you don't want to be there. My son is in the Army. I am glad it is an all volunteer military now because I would hate to think that he is fighting alongside someone who really does not believe in what they are doing. I also think that instead of badgering pp with "who did you vote for," you would have been better off simply speaking your mind. |

Give up. These people are beyond reason. Reasonable people see that the appalling behavior lies with the black Israelites (a hate group) and the criminal, lying N.A. I can't believe that lefties are so intent on defending minorities and blaming whites that they can't even see the truth before their eyes. |

Thank you for such a refreshing response. I sincerely appreciate it. I share your disappointment over how Mr. Phillips has handled this whole thing. It sounds like you've seen the entire footage of the incident, as well. While video is not always 100% conclusive, we can see enough to understand that he was in the wrong. I have always felt a strong connection to Native American culture and clearly they've gotten a raw deal, here. While Mr. Phillips is obviously not representative of all Native Americans, its unfortunate that he is what is front-and-center for now. I do believe the president is complicit in these kinds of confrontations. I just really hate how fissured we are as a country today - and I do blame him for exacerbating that over the past 2-3 years. Personally, as a middle-aged Black man, I can't tell you how hard it is to keep the faith in our country. I want to, and I used to, but it's getting harder. Connecting with people like you help. Thank you. |

I agree our country is terribly divided now. It has been heading this way for years, IMO. I will agree that Trump is not helping, but I don't believe he caused it. I sincerely believe that we are becoming more divided because we are losing our identity as a nation. Instead of working together to solve problems, we look at those things that make us different instead of those things that make us alike. We're so focused on identity politics that we have lost the idea of "one nation, under God." People are more worried about what they don't have and don't take time to look at the blessings they DO have. Things have to change, but to be honest, I don't see anyone who has the ability to bring this country together. I hope I am wrong. |

I never heard of them before this incident, but I did a little research: they are a group of black men who claim that they descended from Jacob - and not Jews. They are also labeled a hate group, and are anti-white and anti-Semitic. |

Nobody is defending t he black isrealites. They are a hate group. And most are not stupid enough to fall for the PR firms start about the boys. Both are wrong, Covington school needs to make some serious changes. |
