Donald J. Trump took his seat at the dining table in his triplex penthouse apartment atop Trump Tower on the last Sunday in September, alongside some of the most sought-after and wealthiest figures in the Republican Party.

There was Paul Singer, the billionaire hedge fund manager who finances Republican campaigns and pro-Israel causes, and Warren Stephens, the billionaire investment banker. Joining them were Betsy DeVos, the billionaire former education secretary under Mr. Trump, and her husband, Dick, as well as the billionaire Joe Ricketts and his son Todd.

Some politicians might have taken the moment to be charming and ingratiating with the donors.

Not Mr. Trump. Over steak and baked potatoes, the former president tore through a bitter list of grievances.

He made it clear that people, including donors, needed to do more, appreciate him more and help him more.

He disparaged Vice President Kamala Harris as “rxxarded.” He complained about the number of Jews still backing Ms. Harris, saying they needed their heads examined for not supporting him despite everything he had done for the state of Israel.

At one point, Mr. Trump seemed to suggest that these donors had plenty to be grateful to him for. He boasted about how great he had been for their taxes, something that some privately noted wasn’t true for everyone in the room.

Yes you people better start doing more! I am looking at you random twitter poster of obscure right wing nut jobs.

It’s Kamala who’s wilting in the spotlight. President Trump is reminding people what happens to his opponents, and they’re falling in line.

Only in the Republican-leaning unreliable polls. If you check out the most highly rated pollsters, they all show a slight lean between 1-5% for Harris. It's all the Rasmussen, Polymarket, RMG, Cygnal type biased and tilting polls that show the race tied or leaning Trump.

Polling the same 46% that has always voted for Trump is not a tied race.

Who cares about the national vote? It’s an electoral college battle. Trump lost by 4.5% nationally in the popular vote and yet came close to an electoral college victory in 2020. He is very strong in the battleground states again this election.

Be serious. In 2020 he had not yet destroyed roe and he had not fermented the Jan 6th violence among other fiascos. He has lost support since 2020, not gained it

Although the polls are worrisome, I have a lot of doubts about their accuracy. What encourages me is how crazed the social media trolls are. They have jumped the shark which strikes me as a sign of desperation.

Misinformation only tends to work when there is enough truth in it to be credible. Now it’s so stupid it’s easily dismissed. Though incredibly tiresome.

I don’t think polls are getting young people at all, and while the conventional wisdom is that the whippersnappers don’t vote, they did to the tune of 50% in 2020. The polls are suggesting that seniors, long the most reliable voters and the most Republican, are turning on the GOP now. Between those two cohorts and how well Harris does with women after the GOP gutted women’s citizenship and rights
I wouldn’t rest well either if I were a Republican political operative.

Meanwhile Trump is just spraying threats:

The problem with your theory is that young people, those 18 - 25, are breaking for Trump in record numbers. Especially young men. And yes, they will vote.

The problem with your theory is that republican strategists can’t even assemble a focus group of republican women under 35, because they don’t exist.

The right leaning polls are also posting misleading polls in the battleground states. Right leaning polls suggest that Trump is leading in several of the battleground states when it's very much neck-and-neck or even Harris leaning. But RMG, Rasmussen, Polymarket, all put their thumb on the scales with polling bias in both the questions they ask and the polling population that they poll to try and suggest that Trump is doing better than he really is.

Isn’t this bad for Trump, in that it will cause his supporters to be a bit more lackadaisical than they would be if they honestly believed that the race was super tight and Trump would need every vote he could get?

Yes, but then if he loses, it will create more fodder for complaints that the election was rigged and that the Democrats cheated somehow.

Kamala Harris helps disaster relief efforts in North Caroline while Trump hangs out at Coachella in California

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday helped pack diapers into boxes of personal care products destined for North Carolina hurricane victims, agreeing with one helper who said “it takes a village.”

“You’re exactly right,” Harris replied to Greg Hatem, owner of The Pit Authentic Barbecue restaurant as she put two packages of diapers inside each cardboard box that was placed in front of her assembly-line style.

Harris met with Black leaders at the barbecue restaurant in Raleigh before she joined volunteers who were there to pack bandages, baby formula, baby wipes, pain relief pills and other items for victims of Hurricane Helene, which tore through western North Carolina last month.

The interview Trump had with Maria Bartiromo this morning was a disaster for him. She was lobbing softball questions and he couldn't answer any of them. I mean, this is Fox Sunday. It should have been a slam dunk for him.

One would think that, but one would be wrong, of course. Ahead of Hurricane Milton, I have been following certain weather people, and the number of folks out there that believe that the Biden administration is creating and directing hurricanes at red states, is astonishing!

Oh please. What “weather people” believe the Biden administration is controlling the weather?

I am one of those "weather people". We are scientists who are being attacked by low-education, brainwashed people because somehow we created these storms on behalf of the Biden administration.

It's very reminiscent of the pandemic, and how the medical and scientific community was maligned in certain quarters for trying to protect and educate the public.

That subset of the population is dangerously crazy. I don't know what to do about it. It's like a mob mentality, but 24/7, ever since 2016.
