Agree. It’s easy to be an armchair quarterback, but Oakton’s troubles are deeper than coaching. Last night they relied too much on #11. She was bailed out by the refs on several occasions who awarded her multiple FPS and they also missed a critical blind pick on one of her goals that knotted the game at 7. To 11s credit she buried the shots.

The problem is these calls will not always go her way, so Oakton will need to turn to others if teams continue to face guard her. At least one of 11s FPS could have just as easily been called a charge.

Madison executed two good game plans against Oakton. They have written the formula and shared it with others on how to defend Oakton. Face guard 11 until someone else steps up. 11 didn’t fair well against this defense in their district championship and she got the benefit of calls last night that were either missed or could have gone either way.

If I’m Oakton’s next opponent I’m asking the refs prior to the game to remind players what an illegal pick is in girls lacrosse. It can be moving, it just cannot be blind and that was happening last night. I would also have the refs define charging for the players before the game.

For those wanting to blame the coaches, yes as sports fans we are all arm chair quarterbacks at times. And hindsight is 20/20 as they say. If I’m the Oakton coaches I’m not talking about if a timeout should or shouldn’t have been called. I’d be focused on what’s ahead and a strategy to win the next game that does not rely on 11. Madison has provided the formula, now the Oakton coaches need to adjust. And adjusting can’t rely of the refs and 50/50 calls like last night. Other coaches will be looking for the blind picks on the face guarding and the charging calls.

HC and assistants for oakton were completely out of line last night as to what the said to the players, the way they treated them disrespected them and acted like kids themselves. Coaches are supposed to be mentors, leaders someone a player can look up to and have mutual respect.
Apparently word gets around fast and the beach coach for oakton had to formally apologize to the whole team today. So obviously something seriously happened last night.
But from why I hear from close sources, this type of bullying has been happening all year and previous years as well. Just ask any prior player or parent and you will get the truth.

I heard the Oakton coaching adjustments were why they got back in the game. Sometimes you don’t know what is happening when things are going well.

Coach Counts & Players have done an amazing job down the stretch -- both coming from behind (adjustments) and winning games in the final minutes. All five of these recent games came down to the last play or final few minutes.

Oakton = 10-9 / 9-8
South Lakes = 12-11 / 17-14
Yorktown = 11-9

Looking forward to States !!

No reason to take anything away from Oakton. They are a great team having an outstanding season. Madison is legit and were underrated by all based on a strong graduating senior class.

Oakton’s players played well, but were let down by idiotic coaching. Madison played keep away leading by one with 9 minutes to go because they couldn’t stop Oakton’s #11. Still, #11 intercepted the ball to give Oakton a chance to tie, but instead of calling a timeout to settle things down and plan a final play to get to OT, there was a long pass to a player who fell down and Madison got the ball back.

This was post was clearly written by #11 Dad. Don’t blame the refs or the coach, It’s the players and the Oakton players just couldn’t get it done. Congrats Madison. Now just one more.

Things get intense in these games. Coaches dedicate their time for basically no compensation for the commitment they make to bettering OUR kids as athletes and people. Sometimes, the game gets the best of them. They do this because they love the game and the girls. One mishap shouldn’t cause parents to question their abilities and call them bullies. Be careful what you write on here..

Reminds me of Centreville -- lot of talented players but they relied too much on #22 all season and never could get that big win. Coaches will make adjustments to the offense next year and be #1 in the Concorde next Spring 2024.

Anyone who thinks that the ref calls went Oakton’s way is smoking something, and it ain’t Centerville bbq. Madison got away with hard cross checking, sticks to the head, and holding 11 off ball. Also, #9 (the coach’s daughter) was constantly in the ref’s ear, sometimes to all three refs like it was a conference with coaches. The refs should have put a stop to it.
