JFC. Turn off FoxNews.

Not PP. Never watch Fox. Have seen plenty of reports of kids in various schools being required to take the role of "privileged" versus "victim" based on skin color. Do not think that's OK. Also would be fine with what PP would be fine with.

Parent in FCPS here. Since school was virtual for most of the year, I was able to hear some of my HS students' sessions where they discussed BLM - the organization, not the concept. They went through myths about BLM where they "debunked" myths, some of which aren't myths at all. For example, "BLM seeks to dismantle the nuclear family" was said to be a myth. (Those very words are no longer on their website, but they were at the time.)

At the end of the lesson, the teacher said "some of you may be resistant to parts of today's lesson, and if that applies to you, you need to search your heart and ask yourself why that is." This is in a HS where 62% of the students are minorities.

It's not FOX News. It's in our classrooms now.

Terry's platform puts equity as a top priority for education.

Take a look at his plan.

He sent his kids to Potomac and Langley. Terry McAuliffe doesn’t give a rat’s ass about equity, any more than Elaine Tholen does. They are both elitist hypocrites.

Can we just focus on the fact that our kids have lost more than a year of education? Can we just maybe prioritize actual educational learning for the next school year and how we are going to get our children caught back up?

Because the "visible" Asians (a large number of Chinese, Koreans, and Indians) do very well and their family incomes are more than that of Whites. The "right" kind of colored people don't want to include these Asians on their side since it spoils their narrative of "we are downtrodden because you the "massa's" shoe", systemic disadvantage, etc.

A lot of Asians come to this country with little or no money but study and work hard to get where they are. If America or its system was racist Asians wouldn’t do well either.

Good point. Hard work pays off.

Sometimes, but it's a question of degree. For far too many today, hard work does not pay off.

Well..the only way to find out is if you actually put in the hard work. If everyone thought "hard work doesn't pay off so let me sleep in", we'll all be living in caves, wouldn't we?

Just incredible. Asra Nomani and Elizabeth Schultz are my new heroes. Great investigative work.

Supporting these people is a great way to let everyone know that you’re racist.

NP. I know one of these authors personally and they are anything but a racist. You are probably one of those that is secretly happy when a black dude jumps an old Asian lady and won't lift a finger to help, yet walks around with a BLM poster expecting everyone to jump in.

I witnessed this garbage at my daughter’s high school too. Virtual class had a few advantages, one being we get to see what’s actually happening in school. Parents are furious, and rightfully so. Interestingly, many of the kids are pushing back on this as well. They know that this type of indoctrination is absurdly inappropriate and unjust. Glad to see a backlash forming.

My kids go to FCPS too. I actively deprogram them on this crap almost on a daily basis (I'm not white BTW). One of them has seen the light and the other is slowly coming around . I suggest everyone do the same.

Not to mention too (willfully?) ignorant to see when you’re being manipulated by right wingers. Unless that’s your jam.

If you think Newsweek is a racist, right wing news outlet, you're incredibly deluded. But no doubt believing in venomous delusions is "your jam".

I swear that if my kids were younger and if they weren't already solidly grounded and able to see through this oppressor/victim mindset, we would be pulling them out of FCPS. It's been a fantastic conversation starter, tbh.

Spelling words? They haven’t taught spelling or grammar in years. They just keep on cutting the academic stuff to teach non sense instead.

Why is it that if you don’t agree with CRT you’re a racist?. As a minority I have a lot of really good white friends who are democrats and Republicans but don’t agree with CRT. They are definitely not racist. I’ve known them for many years and they treat my family no different from their own. Those that are pushing CRT are the racist ones.

You’re assuming all white children are privileged.

DP. In a country where institutional racism is so deeply rooted, are they not, in a sense, privileged?

Agree. Yes, all white children, including mine, are privileged. They never have to walk into a store and worry about being followed simply because of the color of their skin. That in and of itself is a privilege regardless of any other circumstance in their life.

Sorry, but your own privilege is showing. Perhaps you have never lived anywhere where not all white people are not economically advantaged. Some people are followed around in a store because of the way they dress, the way they talk, or the condition of their shoes. My family has a background in foster care, in welfare, and this assumption that just because you are white your life was easy is asinine. And before you get the whole "But bandaids match your skin tone!" issue out, no they do not!!

CRT in schools is not the academic nor the legal CRT that those who are espousing it believe. It's a direct result of Ibrahim Kendi's theories on how oppression from 50 years ago still exists today. Against that, I would argue that for those adults 60+ this may still hold true, and for some stupid teens who decide to try out racial slurs to feel "big" this may also feel true. But white people as a whole do not primarily see themselves as a member of a color class, at least until we are forced to see ourselves there. Now, we are supposed to see ourselves as a part of some color group first? Even if we have nothing in common with many of the others in that color group? And we are supposed to feel shame for descending from those that created this country - the country that over 3/4s of the population of the world would move to if given the chance? To what end? What is the purpose of this training? What good can come from it? I can see no good at all, just more anger and division from both sides and a crumbling patriotism in its wake.

NP coming in at the tail end of this 17 page thread but—

Are we comparing Asians to black Americans and wondering why they’re “more successful” despite migrating to the US with accents? Or am I missing something? Were Asian immigrants being compared to Hispanic ones, perhaps? Because I can’t imagine anyone pretending slavery, Jim Crow, redlining and other racist and microaggressions haven’t been heaped upon black Americans for centuries as it has black Americans.

Furthermore are posters really saying they oppose CRT unless it teaches their white children that they are privileged? Do you not see how you are part of the problem? Society is clearly over white feelings of superiority that lead to the oppression and mistreatment of others. It’s “white privilege” that causes Amy Coopers to feel comfortable calling the police claiming a black man is attacking her when that is not true. It’s what made the white woman feel she could police black people bbq’ing in the park. No! White children do not need to be indoctrinated with more feelings of white supremacy. Instead EVERYONE needs to be aware of the racist systems set in place to disadvantage people of color so they can be the ones to dismantle that system.

White tears and opposition over CRT exemplify exactly why it’s needed. Whites are clearly throwing tantrums at the thought of equity and equality. You don’t want the system of racism to be dismantled.

Please just focus on studying more and also less bang bang.

I have a hard time with the people who bristle at the notion that the goal of CRT partisans is to turn school systems into re-education camps yet gladly accept the idea that a primary mission of our public schools should be to “dismantle systemic racism.” I guess you think it just sounds better when it comes out of your mouths.

Either way I’ll be voting to replace this entire School Board in favor of candidates who focus on academics and not making schools tools of their personal social justice agendas. Give the students the tools they need to advocate on their own and stop trying to shove everything down people’s throats just so you can run for your next political office.

Well, it sounds like they're going to get it. Most teachers will go through the motions, even more students won't meaningfully participate, they'll parrot back what they're expected to say when called upon...then they'll all collectively move on to a useful subject next.
