FCPS paying for Critical Race Theory curriculum. To be implemented in a year

Anonymous
Interesting post on the MCPS boards.

"We are a liberal household but the overwhelming amount of information in the curriculum and other types of assemblies (virtual) about systemic racism, etc. has really turned off my kid. I've been battling this for the entire year, trying to tone down the school message and make it more practical (and less personal) for him because I don't like where his opinions are headed. And of course, at 13, he's beginning to develop opinions that differ from mine. So that's a bit scary to me.

OK, yeah, I guess that's his white fragility. And I'm not an educator or a psychologist. So I don't know the best way to present this information in a way that doesn't alienate some white kids. (and my son isn't the only kid having this reaction). It's not just his being defensive. It's also his learning, or I should say his takeaway is that Black people can't advocate for themselves, that they are victims of everything. And no matter what choices they make in life, they will be beaten down by racism. Instead of having my son become more introspective about systems and how they may negatively impact people of color, he's beginning to see Black people as inferior. Helpless. And it's killing me. It really is. And if it's turning off some (of course not all, maybe not even a significant number) of kids from liberal homes, imagine what it's likely doing to kids in conservative homes. (I'm not putting down conservative beliefs; just that I know they are generally more focused on personal agency of people of color to get ahead and not on systems)."

CRT is textbook racist indoctrination of children.

It is no different than what the klan teaches or hitlers approach.

Mao did this too. Every fanatic movement tries to do this

The entire point of ideologies like CRT is to get to the youngest, most impressionable children so those at the top can indoctrinate them into unmovable little zealots who will do their bidding without thought, and to divide the children from their parents, families and values.

The schools implementing CRT are.treading on dangerous water

Biden's department of ed is implemening CRT and Ibram's teaching into all history curriculum.

There are 3 days remaining in the public comment period.

It’s a gas watching people who kept their mouths shut for years over “well, SOME slavery was good!” curriculum now soiling their diapers over this.

Hmm. Short but hateful post that gives away the CRT agenda isn’t about equal opportunity or respecting each individual, but instead race and class-based retribution. Of course people will fight this. Always have, always will.

Yes, white people will fight acknowledging the atrocities of centuries of oppression.

Are we comparing Asians to black Americans and wondering why they’re “more successful” despite migrating to the US with accents? Or am I missing something? Were Asian immigrants being compared to Hispanic ones, perhaps? Because I can’t imagine anyone pretending slavery, Jim Crow, redlining and other racist and microaggressions haven’t been heaped upon black Americans for centuries as it has black Americans.

Furthermore are posters really saying they oppose CRT unless it teaches their white children that they are privileged? Do you not see how you are part of the problem? Society is clearly over white feelings of superiority that lead to the oppression and mistreatment of others. It’s “white privilege” that causes Amy Coopers to feel comfortable calling the police claiming a black man is attacking her when that is not true. It’s what made the white woman feel she could police black people bbq’ing in the park. No! White children do not need to be indoctrinated with more feelings of white supremacy. Instead EVERYONE needs to be aware of the racist systems set in place to disadvantage people of color so they can be the ones to dismantle that system.

White tears and opposition over CRT exemplify exactly why it’s needed. Whites are clearly throwing tantrums at the thought of equity and equality. You don’t want the system of racism to be dismantled.

Well, it sounds like they're going to get it. Most teachers will go through the motions, even more students won't meaningfully participate, they'll parrot back what they're expected to say when called upon...then they'll all collectively move on to a useful subject next.

This is exactly what I tell my kids to do, explaining to them how unjust it is. Parents need to actively deprogram their kids at home.

Explain to me then what privilege it is that prompts grown-ass black men to beat up frail old Asians, in broad daylight and (in some cases) the black onlookers not caring to intervene or even call the cops? How many Asians will now go out of their way to hire a black man? How do you plan on fixing that?

I'm POC (latina) and my husband is white. My kids look like me (for context).

I absolutely hate this new approach from FCPS, and I see it as indoctrination - remember the question on the survey if FCPS should prepare kids to become justice warriors or something along those lines? That, to me, is indoctrination.

Yes, racism is a big problem in this country, but why not do what any school should be doing anyway and teach the unvarnished history of this country, teach kids to read critically, research and have meaningful, Socratic discussions and let kids get at their conclusions?

The CRT crowd wants to pretend only white people are responsible for historical atrocities, and that the solution for past injustices is retribution and prospective discrimination against white and white-adjacent (Asian) populations. You'd necklace people just like Winnie Mandela if you could get away with it.

At least with this, when you ask your kids what they learned today and they say 'nothing', you know they're telling the truth.

DP. Uh, no. This has all been acknowledged and taught in schools. What we’re not going to do is flagellate ourselves or our kids over sins that none of us committed. Time to move on.
