I am absolutely going to be a one-issue voter this November. CRT is straight out of the socialist playbook. It's insanity.

Yeah!!! I prefer fascism!

Don’t really see how getting rid of this awful all-Democrat School Board that’s shown utter contempt for parents, Asians, higher-achieving kids, and political moderates of all stripes will usher in a dictatorship.

This School Board needs to be voted out in two years. If he is still around at the time the first act of the new Board should be to fire Brabrand.

Absolutely this. How dare they tell white kids that the they’re “privileged oppressors” and POC are “victims”? These people need to focus on educating all our kids and leaving race biases out of it altogether.

I suspect you linked this article because you are a liberal in favor of CRT. After reading it, I am even MORE against it and consider people like Rep. Keith Ammon and Christopher Rufo heroes. So thanks for linking.

Some interesting background (had already read) but totally glosses over how CRT is now being packaged to cram down the throats of students. It’s ultimately a reductive and harmful approach to a complex subject that ends up shaming white and Asian kids and “empowers” others to go around yelling “check your privilege” and “colonizer” at other kids whenever they have a difference of opinion.

+1
I still remember after George Floyd was killed, teenagers were putting “BLM” on their social media, or just putting a black square in place of their picture. Those who didn’t were called racists. It’s really incredible - and frightening - how this mob mentality has escalated on the left.

Haha, right. You saw the last four years and THEN decided to go R but never were before.

DP, but you do realize that people can decide to vote differently in local and national elections. Or perhaps you don’t, but that’s really your problem, not PP’s. You are sticking your head in the sand if you have no appreciation for the extent to which this Democratic-controlled School Board has antagonized parents.

+100
And I would add, parents of ALL political stripes are disgusted with this SB. Many Democrats have had it too.

DP. Keep it up. You’re making this so easy.

My daughter had a session on privilege in her Civics class and an optional session on equity this past Monday. I encourage her to go. We also had a discussion over diner about it. I told her it is her job to increase the amount privilege that she has and also increase the amount of inequity she has with her peers in an ethical/honorable manner.

Yes.

A neighbor kid had a birthday during that time and put up a birthday picture instead of the socially acceptable square post.

Their friend sent the kid an awful message calling them a racist for posting birthday pics instead of a square and then dumped the kid and trashed them to all the other kids. Horrible, Mao cultural revolution type stuff.

Exactly. I think more Ds may change votes precisely because the Trump years are over. The only thing that united Ds and mitigated any infighting was the fact that we all hated Trump so much. Now that he's gone, the gloves are coming off within the left and it is blindingly apparently that there's a massive schism between the far left and the moderates. We may have seen this before, but we had the anti-Trump thing to at least patch things over. I'm no longer willing to blindly vote D at the local level to see public education torn to shreds. I'd rather have a more balanced school board with differing opinions and diversity of thought than what we have now. I'm also more interested in keeping folks like Chap Peterson (who I previously disliked) in the party to ensure that we have all types of progressive voices present. I'm also going to take a really hard look at our gubernatorial elections because I can't stomach falling any further left. We need balance and I have to hold my nose and vote for even moderate Rs, I'm now prepared to do it.

I completely agree with you. This isn't a D or R matter anymore. CRT is child abuse. It’s going to create a generation people who hate each other.

Well, at the same time they're preparing to implement CRT into the curriculum, they're also preparing to get rid of that regulation that makes it possible for parents to opt-out. I'd call that fascism.

Being Hispanic doesn't mean you aren't white.

Oh my god critical race theory is a boogeyman invented by Fox News.

Seriously, I’m an academic with expertise in critical race theory, and it’s not like it’s ONE theory or set of beliefs, the term encompasses any critical discussion of race, and within “critical race theory” there are many disputes, including how to perceive whiteness or how to define privilege etc.

There’s literally no way to “ban” critical race theory, and attempting to do so is obviously unconstitutional and violates free speech.

I’m so dismayed that I literally studied this for years and took qualifying exams under several scholars in order to be halfway qualified to comment on critical race theory, and now everybody with cable news has an opinion on it.
