That would make appeals really hard! No time for testing...

They have made it very clear that they are not going to look at testing. It is on the web site that you can test but some AARTs have already told people that the appeals committee will not be looking at testing. The Equity report from last year recommended getting rid of the WiSC.

My son took the WISC last year before LAST Year’s Appeals. Would they not even consider that? It didn’t help him on appeals last year, despite being in the 99th percentile. But last year his GBRS was 4FO and 1 OB. Didn’t get any CO. I also submitted no work samples at all. He was in the original pool, and I honestly didn’t know much about the process, and just figured teachers would submit work.

This year (grade 3) he is in advanced math (not last year), level III, and got 4CO. Also, very good report cards, mostly 4s. I also submitted good work samples as did the AART. SO I am hoping this year is different. But I do wonder if they will weigh the WISC since it was taken almost a year ago (prior to them saying test wont be counted.)

The most accurate, valid and non subjective measure available. Nothing highlights the issue with AAP more than this!

(adv math and level iii)

I think it's really hard to predict. I've heard of kids with 2CO / 2FO who didn't get in last year. Also, I am seeing a lot of 4CO on this year's threads. Will just have to see.

Did s/he say whether they would arrive by email or USPS?

Email.

Here’s one of the inherent problems with GBRS:
Different teachers perceive and assign GBRS differently
Different schools / AART / principal : same
Some schools top scales for their applicants
Some don’t
After last year when 2CO 2FO isn’t in, teachers/AART/principals/schools will be tempted to
Tip scales even more - especially given lack of in person school - benefit of doubt to student

Result: more madness with lots of 4CO students with no testing or with tests that committee doesn’t want to recognize

The whole process has really become a throw of dice and a bit of a sham for recognizing the amorphous term “need”

My daughter report card said her current level of AAP is level 3 she is in 2nd grade, does that mean she is already getting level 3 support? We never notified by anyone from school.

According to the website, level 3 is grades 3-6 so not sure.

Yes, level 3 starts at grade 3.

Which not every family can afford, knows is free if they qualify, or has the time to be able to take off work to get their kid tested. That is the issue. The test is too expensive to give to every child being considered for AAP, they use the NNAT and the CoGAT as proxies.

She might be getting Level II support in second. We were contacted by the school seeking permission for Level II services for second grade. Level III starts in third. More likely someone hit the wrong button.

Agree. A 14 was an amazing GBRS back when there were numbers. Now it seems like everyone admitted has 3-4 COs.

One of our school teacher said that they will announce results by end of the month.

^^^ That would cause a riot

Not allowing testing discriminates against 2E children. They cannot completely ignore the only form of unbiased testing for this population.

Relying on the GBRS, a subjective and invalided measure measure over valid tests with established norms introduces error into the process that you can’t control. MNy extremely gifted children were not accepted and many students that shouldn’t have been were. No one knows or is able to predict which is where part of the anxiety comes from.

And, to the PP, yes we do have other deadlines. Many apply to private schools if their gifted child is not accepted

Just curious, what makes your children extremely gifted?
