The most virulently homophobic family members I have moved to South Bend. I hope, for their sake and that child's sake, that they don't move back there. They are DC types.

As a fellow gay DC parent I have decided to stay in this area in large part because my family is normal and run of the mill here and not circus freaks like we would be in many areas of our country. It's becoming normal to be gay in many places, but to be a gay parent is still unusual.

+1 Exactly my first two thoughts. The timing seems terrible for Pete to be an involved parent but my guess is Chasten has been pushing for this for a while. Fingers crossed the transition goes as smoothly as possible and that the new little family stays happy and well.

Oh, no question. Baby or not, gay or not, no one his age who leaves mid-size-town mayoralty for a cabinet position is ever going "home," at least not until they retire.

It was a weirdly worded tweet.

I think that they were probably trying to keep everything private and then a reporter caught the scent. So they told the news themselves rather than be outed.

At least this way they can control the news.

Could well be a surrogacy that’s far along. It’s just like a straight couple announcing that they are pregnant.
