They're the last one in the food chain of a 4-year program and held overly responsible for getting every student into the college of his/her (his/her parents') dream. They do their best to match the students and their achievements with the schools they believe would be a good fit. Then the students and/or parents lean in with, "What?!!!! Not Harvard/Yale/Stanford/Penn/etc.? We didn't spend $175,000 to only go to Muhlenberg/Elon/Franklin & Marshall/etc."

Combine the student population of all the seniors at all the DMV private AND public schools and that's the number who are competing for the small # of slots that a college/university will allocate to the DMV area.

umm, i'd be pissed if my private school kid ended up at Elon.

And would you be just as upset if they end up at a major state school (Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, etc.)?

is Elon really that bad? I mean, was the child prepared for college and life? Did they end of successful, motivated people? The answers to those questions are more important to me. And we are a Sidwell family that has been at the school since PK.

Although I'm guessing that even graduates of these universities know how trite and sophomoric one's writing appears when one chooses to start sentences with the "word" Umm....

Wait, the "moderator" once more deleted the post showing how much teachers make in public schools???

I guess it is tough to accept those crazy salaries and at the same time complain about private schools....

I will. Enjoy your sad snobby life.

Calm down, people. Why are you always so upset with strangers’ choices? So much anger.

No wonder the counselors got worn down.

People are trying to say it obliquely yet others continue to suggest the problem is just parents with unrealistic demands. So to be direct: One of the college counseling staff turned out to be incompetent at his job, and the director insisted on keeping him on long after the problem was obvious to students, parents and other school staff.

Seconding the other poster's request for some transparency and explalantion from BG about how we can work together going forward.

And that's why he left? Makes no sense. The demanding-parents-wore-him-down makes more sense.

Or the kids ended up where they belonged.

Could it just be that he got a better offer? Maybe Gonzaga is closer to home? Some people don’t want to stay in the same job forever especially if the community is not very uplifting.
