In PWC, first year teachers make $50,000. |
Yawn.... |
Okay, we get it. Sidwell is going down in flames. I have a great idea. Keep up this thread so that no one applies, thereby increasing our odds!!! Thanks y’all! |
When the dust settles, and all the results are in, I can tell you that college admissions for this year’s 12th grade class will be strong. ED admits have been rough all over the DMV (Holton, Prep, STA, public..), but the RD responses are rolling in and Sidwell is doing very well. Basing our opinion on facts, gleaned from first-hand knowledge, not inflammatory speculation on an anonymous parent board or the rantings of a few out-of-control parents who can’t reconcile the fact that their children didn’t get exactly what they wanted, exactly when they wanted it. |
Uh, regular decision results haven’t even started yet...Come back in two weeks and let us know how it turned out. |
That doesn't obviate the fact that it would be nice for Bryan Garman to have open honest discussions with the parents about the school. |
Yes, they have for most SLACs, MIT, CalTech. Some people don't care about the Ivies. |
Parent here with two Sidwell alum. College counselor is a miserable job. They're the last one in the food chain of a 4-year program and held overly responsible for getting every student into the college of his/her (his/her parents') dream. They do their best to match the students and their achievements with the schools they believe would be a good fit. Then the students and/or parents lean in with, "What?!!!! Not Harvard/Yale/Stanford/Penn/etc.? We didn't spend $175,000 to only go to Muhlenberg/Elon/Franklin & Marshall/etc."
Combine the student population of all the seniors at all the DMV private AND public schools and that's the number who are competing for the small # of slots that a college/university will allocate to the DMV area. |
"What?!!!! Not Harvard/Yale/Stanford/Penn/etc.? We didn't spend $175,000 to only go to Muhlenberg/Elon/Franklin & Marshall/etc." This is exactly what it is and everyone knows that most private school kids can’t compete with the top public and magnets in the DMV. |
Yea, welcome to private school salaries. There's a reason so many teachers at "the good schools" either married into/come from money OR have hellacious commutes. |
umm, i'd be pissed if my private school kid ended up at Elon. |
PP has absolutely no idea what they are talking about and frankly sounds like someone who has zero to no experience in the private school world. Why come here and post when you have never had, and don't plan on having, a child in an area private? You sound ridiculous |
That is why none of the DC privates including sidwell discloses year by year college placement stats. So you can guess how many ends up at Elon after paying nearly 200k for 4 years. |
there is a quick way to stop all inflammatory speculation and that is to release placement statistics yearly. I don’t think that will happen for obvious reason which is they are far from what these schools market themselves to be |
Exactly. A friend’s child was in an area private for 7 years and went to Elon. Nice kid, nice family, full pay. The school never provides its stats. |
