There has been an antisemetic conspiracy theory surrounding the Rothschilds which emanated, I believe from the Nazis since the 1930’s or thereabouts. It is an age old antisemetic trope to blame the Rothschilds for all the bad in the world or to say thaT they control things. Anyone who knows anything about antisemetism knows that invoking the Rothschilds name is the same as saying the Jews. This could probably be explained better, but I gave it a shot.

Jeff, no offense, but the Councilmember has an undergraduate and graduate degree from fine, accredited universities. He is not an uneducated rube. As such, I simply cannot believe that he doesn't know the nature of his comments.

Further, the fact that he is monetarily supporting Rev. Farrakhan speaks volumes.

So you're pissed that "we Jews" have decided it's antisemtitsm, yet you in your superior wisdom have decided IT IS NOT? So why do you get to decide?

And does it not concern you that (some) Jews find his remarks and actions offensive? For example, I once used "the" when I said "the blacks" and was criticized, soundly, for saying "the." I don't get why it's racist, because I refer to the Jews in that context plenty of times. Yet, because I was told it IS offensive, I never did it again. Why? Because I don't want to refer to black people in a way that (some at least) find offensive, even if I myself don't see that it is.

You are wrong about what people over the age of 6 know. There is another White on the Council, Robert White. He is very well-respected. Here is an excerpt from his statement about Trayon White:

"As I have taken the time to learn more about how anti-Semitic conspiracy myths have been used to justify bigotry and hatred toward Jewish people, it made me sad to realize that, though I work closely with Jewish colleagues and advocates, I did not know something that was so central to their community's history of oppression and that it would be so painful for them."

Robert White further ads:

"I do believe that Councilmember Trayon White sincerely did not realize the implication of his statement, and I believe his apology is heartfelt."

If you honestly think that White espoused a conspiracy theory about weather control as an elaborate ruse to disseminate anti-Semitism, you are just as ignorant as he is. I've said from the beginning that the real issue with White is not his ignorance about the Rothschilds, but his ignorance about the weather. His conspiracy theory would have been just as bad if he had blamed a Southern Baptist family for controlling the weather.

There are several posters here who are very eager to find anti-Semitism where there is none. Your energy -- and mine -- would be much better spent combatting cases in which anti-Semitism is clear and obvious. This evening I removed a post from the MD Schools forum that said the following:
