Question for White Americans about the future of US

+ 1 I'm one of the other PPs that poster is arguing with. I thought it was common knowledge that Asians (and Jews, too) put a big emphasis on education. It's not a criticism - it's a positive. If blacks would emulate that trait - rather than feel threatened by it and therefore deny its very existence - they would make better strides toward their own success. But that runs opposite the victim mentality, as you astutely point out.

Asians, as a whole, are very academically focused. That's not to say there aren't individual differences within the group, but, statistically speaking, they achieve higher levels of education than whites or blacks. Why get so upset when this positive attribute is credited?

Yeah, it's hard to blame bigotry for one's failures when other groups, also victims of prejudice, soldier on and succeed. Look at the Jews. The majority arrived here penniless around 100 years ago, endured terrible antisemitism through the 30s and 40s, and one generation later their kids are all college graduates.

You can be a minority and still be successful, you just have to work at it and have parents who value education. I see it with thr Asian parents, our schools are good because thr parents put the pressure on and demand excellence.

This dies out over generations in America. Offspring get lazier.

They're not playing football, so no problem with Shabbat! That's why you don't hear much complaining from Jews that Adam or Jacob can't play on Friday night. Sure, there are exceptions, but for the most part, the Jewish boys aren't on the football team. They're devoting their time and energy to getting into a top college. So you think asians as a whole value education as highly as amerucan blscks as a whole? Yiu hinestly believer that?

People like you who refuse to acknowledge the REALITIES of what different populations and cultures value are excatly why blacks in particular will always be at the bottom of the heap. As a white person, i don't see blacks or Hispanics in the very slightest as compwtition for future high paying jobs. Asians (yea ALL of them) are the competition of the future. Hispanics i think will pull it out, but this victim mentality and refusal to take any ownership that is pervasive in the black community and amoung self loathing whites only serves to keep blacks as whole without a seat at the table.

Despite living in a mixed community, when i take my white kids to their math and writing learning centers are there absolutly no, and i mean no blacks ever there? But instead the seats are full of Indians, and Koreans? Don't tell me its money either because blacks are fully represented on the area travel sports teams which is much more expensive than academic toutoring.

BTW, Asians share different cultures, just like whites do, but there are common values that the majority hold and it's placing a high value on education.

I do indeed hope your children get ahead. I hope the entire African American culture can get finally get their act together and compete and have as secure and as competitive a future as the new immigrants coming here are enjoying. It is good for the entire country. However with your pervasive and commonly shared attitudes, Im thinking you will still be staring in from outside looking in through the windows for quite some time still.

If you don't know different types of Asian people if you don't know Cambodians and people from India if you don't know people from Vietnam and people from China if you don't know orthodox Jews Reform Jews black people from all different walks in types of life that's your fault that's not my fault so it's easier and a sign of laziness on your part that you don't want to see people as individuals and deal with them in that way while still having an understanding of some general, commonalities based on race or religion but not assuming those things are true of every person that you meet . Not the PP you are calling evil, sick, and deprived - but what is so awful about what she said? The fact is that, statistically speaking, Asians graduate from college at much higher rates than a white or black person. Naturally, there are individual differences, and many Asians do not go to college, but most do. In fact, only about 25% of Americans over 25 have a college degree, whereas slightly more than 50% of Asians do. (I have no idea what percent of Jews have degrees, but I will look it up. I'm sure it's above the average.)

Don't get mad over the fact that Asians place a high value on education, and their graduation rates - and success - reflect that. Don't argue that it isn't true, or feel threatened by it Admire it. Emulate it. That is the key to success.

Federal and state government policies hurt AA families for centuries, passed civil rights bills ONLY 50 years ago, that mainly helps white women, and then you sit back and point the finger at AA families for their struggles. Look, I know you hate white people, but 50 years is two generations! Add in the benefits of affirmative action (and no....it doesn't help white women) in opening college doors, and we should have seen lots of improvement by now. If anything, it's gotten worse - and that's largely thanks to the skyrocketing out-of-wedlock births to young women who can't support their kids. Don't you think blacks have ANY responsibility? I mean, geez....look to the Asians and Jews, and see how well they've done by getting an education and not having babies without a husband. It's time to own up and admit that blacks bear at least some of the blame here.
