I hate dog people.

This is my opinion. And, truly, it really is a litmus test.

This thread is about not liking dog people. No one said they disliked dogs. Just most of their people.

Letting their dogs crap wherever and not cleaning up after them even though our neighborhood has little stations specifically for this purpose.
Bringing their dogs into stores where it is completely inappropriate. The only store you should bring your dog into is a pet store.
Bringing their dogs into restaurants. I know certain restaurants allow it but I think it is gross.
Letting their dogs run and jump on whoever without apology. If my child jumps on you I'm going to apologize.
Having their dogs unleashed around play equipment at the playground. No. some kids are afraid of dogs. I don't bring my child to the dog park.

I'm obviously not talking about service dogs. I'm talking about people's pets. UGH!

don't worry. everyone (pet owner or not) hates you.

I don't. I like OP. Agree with everything here. And on top of it, I am skeptical about the need for 75% of service dogs. If you can't leave the house without your little pug, you need serious mental health treatment.

Totally agree. My mom owns a rental home, and one of the tenants *insisted* she be able to keep her dog there. The contract stipulates NO PETS. This girl (mid 20's) was just sure that my mom would bend the rules for her, and she went as far as claiming it was her "service dog" (not a service dog). She was evicted. Arrogant millennial.

+1. I want to be one as soon as I retire and can take care of one during the day. Maybe an older dog from a shelter. It will be great....

That's a great plan!

Anonymous[b wrote:]People were so much more respectful with their dogs, back in the day[/b].

Now they bring them EVERYWHERE. Don't restrain them, don't leash them, don't train them, call them "service dogs" when they're not, but use their dog like a child and their security blanket or stuffed animal.

It's ridiculous. I don't know how "cat people" got such a bad rep (fyi I don't own any pets, but dog owners are far, far, FAR more awful)

I really disagree with this assertion. Dogs were allowed to roam free at all times. Dogs were allowed to poop everywhere and no one would ever pick it up. I can't remember all the times I used to step in dog poop and now it is very rare. My brother got bitten by a loose dog. People don't do that anymore. Also, the majority of dog owners never trained their dogs so they would always jump on you.

So, no the good old days were not good. Are there still problems with dog owners? Yes, and as a dog owner I try my best to not do any of the things that people complain about. My dog is trained and she is under my control at all times. If I see someone I do not assume they want to pet my dog and I will cross the street or step aside so they can walk by. If they want to pet and they ask I let them. I also pick up my dog poop and throw it away in public trash cans or my own, never ever a neighbors.

Dogs are cool but actually having one? No thanks.

You don't have to walk a dog five times a day! I get why you don't want a dog but, that is crazy. I think two or three walks ( at most) is fine.

But...why? Why would you do this?

It is "allowed" to burp loudly in restaurants, but it is irksome to other people, and crass. So...do you do that too?

Is that any different than many children in restaurants?
\\\

Yes, it is different: children are allowed in restaurants because children are people. Your dog is not a person. Home Depot is not a dog park or vet's office: many people who are allergic to dogs, or just don't like them, need to go to Home Depot for the same home essentials you need, and your desire to "socialize" your dog does not trump their discomfort at having your animal inflicted on them. It is weird and selfish to take your dog to Home Depot, and I can assure you that many people who see you there are thinking this. Taking your dog to Home Depot is so selfish and entitled.

I have a pet I love, but I can't believe people are equating dogs to children in this thread. Yes, children (ie, people) are welcome in more places than are dogs (ie, animals).

Oh, it absolutely does, since it's in their policy that I can bring my dog.

Sorry, not sorry.

You have an issue with Home Depot's policy. Take it up with them.

...and, for the record, my dog isn't inflicted on anyone. She stays at my side the entire time. If that's too much for the allergic, they should live in a bubble. Seriously. (And, I have a ton of allergies, so I'm not unsympathetic.)

The question remains. Why do you need to take your dog to home depot?

Why do you need to take your kids?[/quote]

I have no problem with dogs at Home depot ( hate it for other reasons) but you can't be serious. You do know that parents can't leave their human children alone, right?

I saw a dog wrap its leash around a patrons feet yesterday while he was paying for his goods. He was fortunate that he was able to untangle before he walked away.

Don't worry folks, lawsuits will fix all of this.

I also know someone who loves it when his dog smells womens crotches. But people dismiss this as:
*Just getting your address
*They only do it once.
*That's what dogs do

What's the difference between this guy and Harvey Weinstein? What's the difference between anyone who allows their dog to do this and Harvey Weinstein, even if they don't enjoy it. It is still assault, and usually quite a public one.

Apparently it is very easy to get fake service dog papers.

I love walking my dog most days. It is a great way to get in extra activity and fresh air without thinking about it.

Can someone explain to me why you'd walk your dog, pick up its poop in a baggie, and leave the bag filled with poop on a sidewalk/trail/path/etc?

I know some people say they pick it up on the return (which is still a dick move - your dog, your shit, carry it). But increasingly, the bags are there. They're there hours later, days later, and it's disgusting. Why on earth bag your dogs poop just to leave it outside?

I hate dog people so, so much.

I agree with OP. I have severe allergies and my life is fucking miserable because people insist on bringing their dogs everywhere. Dander is an airborne allergen that affects a lot of people, but most dog owners don't seem to care. Also, my allergies aren't just a little sneezing, but necessitate that I carry epi-pen at all times. Your dog literally affects my breathing. I really wish that people would just take their dogs to places that are billed as dog friendly, which are easy for me to avoid. However I can't avoid all stores, restaurants, and other indoor spaces.

+1. She brings us a lot of joy, and is well loved and taken care of. But she's an ANIMAL. She absolutely does not come to the store with us, and it's impossible to fathom how I would justify bringing her into one. She is nothing like my children, not even within view of the same realm as them, and no dog ever could be
