Question for Madlax Parents

He was busted for cheating in 5th grade ‘B’ HoCo playoffs over the weekend and his team was disqualified. He loaded up with 6th graders (and possibly 7th)

I hope the $30/drink Scotch at Millie’s helps ease your shame. Then again, if you are a parent(or even a 5th grader) willing to participate in this pathetic attempt to cheat at 5th grade ‘B’.....well, shame requires a conscience, so never mind.

By the way, your kid is learning how to be just like you, even if he was one of the actual 5th graders on the team.

I’ve had 2 sons play up for teams that were short players. I’d pull my kid from any club that ever asked one to play down. But, never had to worry about that. Wouldn’t allow any of my kids to play for a Cabel team.

Since when does anyone check rosters in the HOCO league? I am sure the logic was "they plan to re-class at a later date" No age restrictions grade only with no verification system. If you ain't cheat'n you ain't try'n. Heck you could bring in a college player and it would be within the rules as long as the .layer did not play on a HS JV or Varsity team. The most surprising part of this story is that a team was actually caught and disqualified. This happens with many teams at many age groups.
What Madlax should have done is put them in the 2025 B division - not playing against legit 5th grade teams and taking up a playoff spot. This team was awful last spring/fall as a mixed 5th/6th grade team but has improved this spring. From what i understand is this team was entered into the 2026 A division, made 2nd seed in playoffs, beat the opposing team who made a protest on the roster immediately following, some kids shared they were in fact 6th graders (in fact, I know a kid on that team who is old enough to be a 7th grader.) But Madlax, coaches and parents knew they were playing down... hopefully Mdlax will make some adjustments to their summer tourneys - I can just hear opposing teams calling them out as cheaters and they aren't wrong.

Do you think this will have any affect on their registrations? It's been over 5 years since the ungrateful quitter and even the negative press associated with it and he has 2 teams at all ages down to 2027 and he still has national franchisees. How in the world do people give him their money? Players and families kicked to the curb for outside teams (Club Blue/DC Dogs); terrible personal treatment (ungrateful quitter); and now blatant cheating and forfeits.

Will HoCo do anything and why would you play this team in any tournaments? HoCo and tournaments don't need the aggravation as there are plenty of clubs to take Madlax's place.

Nobody will ban Madlax.

Yeah no way they get banned. Not that it wouldn’t be a just result, but won’t happen.

I agree if a family has any integrity at all and really cares for the well being of our youth they should send their children to BlackWolf

are you saying there’s a unnaturally close relationship between hoco league director and CM?

this doesn’t refer to madlax’s owner, if that wasn’t clear

Funny thing is that BW is fading and it has nothing to do with the what is mentioned above. Parent's don't seem to care in either case.

Why not? At least suspend or ban the coach of the team.

so there’s a meaningful penalty for intentional cheating. Is that a novel concept?

All HoCo needs to do is go to an age-based system instead of "year of graduation". Don't know why they don't do that.

MadLax entered a team in the 2026 A division and played the season with a number of 2025 kids. They played BLC in the playoffs, won and BLC immediately filed a protest (it must be done within 15 minutes of the game). The officials asked a number of kids on MadLax what grade they were in and the kids responded by saying they were in 6th grade. MadLax had to forfeit and the score shows up as a 1-0 victory for BLC.

Because there's no fair way of setting the age birth date without having age related bias. Also, except for a couple of areas, most noticeably Long Island, and a few good tournaments, the rest of the country plays on a class based system. It's been discussed ad nauseum and USL doesn't have enough authority or incentives to change the system.

But the idea of having no cap on the age is ridiculous too. There were 6 players who were 16 in this year's 2023 (8th grade) division. 3 of those played for MadLax.

So the 5th graders self identified as 6th graders. Time to move on. This happens with all divisions of HOCO. Get used to it. The funny thing is that it happened in the "A" division which is really B- I but more blame on the Bethesda coach. If you knew this, you knew it long before this game, you knew it earlier in the season. Would they file a protest if they won? BLC is the shameful club here To confront a sixth grader and make him feel like he did something wrong is the real problem. THE PLAYER DID NOTHING WRONG! The coaches did. HOCO league let's kids two-three years older play on teams and knows about this. They have the birth dates. Any parent of any club knows this. If you wait until AFTER the game to address this, that coach is the problem in this story. I am not a Madlax parent and only know what I have read on these posts. It sounds like a coach called out something he knew about before the game. The refs should NOT have involved the players. File a protest later. The officials should not be asking the kids.
