I will agree that anyone who was against slavery, including Virginians, most likely were an enemy of Davis or at the very least disagreed with his policy. But stand firm that Virgina as a state was not an enemy of Davis. All leaders have their home grown enemies, every US president included.

Davis was an enemy of Virginians who happened to be enslaved. Virginians whose back-breaking, forced, unpaid labor fueled the Virginia economy for decades if not centuries. That in an of itself is enough reason that he should not be honored. Davis was a miscreant and a villain who never repented his support of the institution of slavery and whose memory is an insult to all Virginians who had enslaved ancestors and indeed to all other liberty-loving Virginians.

Lee, at least was local and is respected as a military tactician even though he supported a bad cause. Davis was in way over his head and never even formed much of a functioning government.

The differences between Davis versus Washington and Jefferson have already been explained. Washington and Jefferson put this nation together, whereas Davis tore it apart. Davis was a war criminal responsible for getting 620,000 Americans killed. Davis was a racist and white supremacist who continued to defend, promote and try and expand slavery when the rest of America had banned it long prior.

Actually that remains to be determined. Richmond could easily step in and forbid Arlington from removing the signs.

Let the politicians who forbid it from being removed step forward and sign their names so that the rest of America can roundly condemn them and make sure they never see another term in office.
