Arlington has asked Virginia to rename Jefferson Davis Highway

This is a rename worth doing, unlike the BS that was renaming National Airport.

I didn't realize that was the actual name of that stretch of route 1 until a year or two ago. I live right by it now and still find the name a bit off putting. If I'm describing where the target is i will absolutely refer to the road as route 1 instead of its given name.

While I agree with changing the name, one negative to consider is that this could be a large expense not just for taxpayers (changing signage), but for businesses (large and small) along the Hwy- changing letterhead, advertising materials, etc.

Big deal. Street names change all the time. There's a gazillion roads that got renamed after Martin Luther King Jr and to the best of anyone's knowledge, not a single community ever felt any meaningful budget pain as a result.

Then again, they might appreciate not having the name Jefferson Davis on all of their materials.
