Anyone who tries to defend Jeff Davis with the stupid faulty analogy to Washington or Jefferson is obviously an idiot.

Actually if you compare Washington and Davis they had similar backgrounds. The major difference being one was on the winning side of war and the other was not.

Lol yup. If the revolutionaries had lost the war and we are still part of the British commonwealth we'd probably treat Washington like Guy Fawks. You'd have libs yelling on these forums that he was a slave owning racist that only inbreds want to remember.

And if Native Americans were immune to pathogens spread by domesticated cows, pigs, sheep, goats, and horses then millions wouldn't have been killed by measles, influenza, whooping cough, diphtheria, typhus, bubonic plague, cholera, scarlet fever and syphilis and there would have been greater numbers to ward off European invaders.
If...if...if...

In other words, if we were patriotic British, we would not like George Washington.

Well guess what? We are patriotic AMERICANS. It's not just a matter of winning or losing. it is a matter of which country we belong to, who were the people who defended us, and who were the people who went to war with us. How can you be so thick as to not understand it.

Virginians are Virginians in addition to being Americans. They can be proud if both their national and state history. Their state history includes NOT being part of the Union during the civil war.

Would you tell Tibetans not to celebrate the dahli lama because they are now patriotic CHINESE?

in what way are you proud of the fact that Virginia seceded?

In the face of daunting odds they stood up for what they believed was right. Now no one today would agree with their cause, but that was a different era when the proper answer wasn't so clear. Especially considering the right thing to do meant the ruin of many of those in power. Economically wise, you could compare it to losing half your property and doubling the minimum wage. Many a person has decided on their pocket book over doing the right thing.

A significant number of Virginians (even excluding West Virginia, and black Virginians) supported and fought for the Union. Some did so in the Loudoun Rangers, a pro union partisan group, and some did so by joining regiments raised in Maryland.

Of course many black Virginians fought for the Union.

It is to be presumed that none of these Virginians recognized the legality of secession. Ergo, to them, Virginia did not leave the Union during the civil war. Rather the Richmond legislature engaged in illegal acts.

They did not believe the odds to be daunting. "one southerner can whip ten yankees"

They believed that given their superior martial skills, their greater motivation, the general disadvantages faced by an occupier, and the need of Britain and France for cotton, they would win quickly and easily.

Yes but Virginia is still a sovereign state that gets to name its roads after whoever it likes. "Get it?"

And Virginians have decided they don't want it anymore. Gone.

Actually three members of the Arlington County Board decided they do not want the name and adopted changing the name as part of its requests to the commonwealth's legislature.

Yup. Sounds like how things work. Hope it gets done quickly.

May be a hiccup. The delegate from Arlington, Patrick Hope, is working on important legislation to remove the surcharges on telephone calls made by prisoners.

Profiteering off of convicts is immoral.

Especially since convicts are so moral

An overwhelming majority felt the answer was clear. The free population of the South was only a little over 5 million as compared to the north, which was closed to 20 million. The American consensus against secession and slavery was 4:1 against. Most of America felt humans should not be property and that workers deserved to be paid wages rather than be enslaved and this had already been the case for generations in the North.

You never go into battle admitting defeat. You go in defiant, portraying confidence. Do you really think the CSA, or any other competitor, would have expressed anything less then that?

What specifically about being responsible for tearing the country apart., the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Americans and the forced enslavement of millions is there to be proud of? Please explain this.

You just described any revolutionary on the planet. No one starts a civil war believing they are wrong.
