Swine Flu epidemic in Mexico (and possibly US)

The family plan most needed right now is who will take care of the kids if schools and daycares are closed for 4 weeks.

Each school and place of business should have a list of all recent travelers to Mexico. It appears that the NY and MD cases were from recent arrivals from Mexico. I don't get why we have to have an open border at this time.

I hope DC does shut down. I could use the break.

Me too. I put in my emergency supplies a few days ago and I would welcome a couple of weeks of watching the world go by from inside.

I work at the World bank and can confirm this is true.

If you live in DC you have to do more than just stock-pile a few supplies. You have to have a back up plan to get past the traffic pressure points if deliveries to your little stores become a problem. People ha-ha about it, but there are really not that many points of egress from the city (see DC Traffic any day).

And remember, hospitals need their trash picked up 4X day and only carry 3 days of sterile gloves. Being within walking distance of a hospital is not necessarily going to be a good thing.

I was hoping that the local governments would have learned a lesson from the Katrina problems, but we still have no reality based Civil Defense Plans for people that live in cities and have small children.

I don't care about the government, I'm a lot more worried about DC Moms!

Are you kidding me? This would be devastating to our weak economy.
