(Not that I'm doubting you, I just want to see what else is being reported about it...)

NBC 4 breaking news Gov. was on speaking about it, check the website

WTOP has been reporting this for several hours. Two are student - not sure of age.

None in DC reported yet.

PP here. One is a high school student, and one is an elementary student. Both in Maryland. The other four are adults.

I was 'out with friends and one of them said that she had swine flew in college. She was working in a lab doing research on pigs and caught it. She said that she had "delusional" fevers and was pretty much in bed for a few days and felt awful. Obviously, she has made a full recovery. This was more than 10 years ago...

Avian flu didn't have the WHO nearly as spun up a few years ago. Some Asian countries that were seeing fatalities did cull chickens, though. Is this the same poster who made the tasteless joke about Islam earlier? What is your deal? In this case, A + B doesn't necessarily = C.

Not the pp you quoted, but our family has also set aside emergency supplies as recommended by the gov't.
No, we're not militia types. Nope, not a sign of anxiety disorder at all--to the contrary, storing adequate food/water/medicine/basic supplies was a small and easy step that has helped us feel prepared to the extent we can be for emergencies. We've done our part to be prepared, which allows us to let go and NOT stress or feel anxious about events outside our control.
Background: spouse works on terrorism/first response and part of that has included work with epidemiologists.

PP, do you mind telling me what you have stocked, how many in your family and how much it ran you? I have read the recommendations but I'd like to know the real items someone else has stocked up on if you don't mind sharing the info. Thanks.

Hi, I'll try to post a more detailed reply tomorrow. In the meantime, check out the site http://www.codeready.org.

I think someone upthread may have already mentioned it. The site allows you to build a shopping list based on number/age of family members and the length of time for which you want to prepare (e.g. 3 days, 1 week). The list includes food, water, and medical supplies. Can also have the site guide you through making an emergency plan for your family. FYI: you are asked to enter your name, street, and city.

Hope this is helpful in the meantime.

I'm not defending the slaughter of pigs in Egypt. But Egypt did in fact kill 25 million chickens when the bird flu first hit there in 2006.

Then this is a consistent policy placing human life above livestock! I don't have a problem with that, as long as farmers are compensated, and think suggesting a necessary link between pigs and politics is unfounded.

What's your source? I haven't seen anything in the press yet...

DC has a good family emergency guide, which lets you develop your own family plan - like who will pick up the children from school, etc. I also like the lists of things that every family should have in their house -
