Why would anyone even want to be a part of a club that ostracizes others? I guess the desire to be a part of the so-called 'cool kids' never leaves some adults. I wasn't above it as a 14-year old but when I realized what chuckleheads the 'cool kids' were, I never looked back. Don't go where you're not wanted. Plenty of other great associations (and cool ) out there.

Yes the "off the record" blackballing that happens so there is no paper trail. I bet if one sued over libel or defamation of character, they wouldn't be able hide it unless willing to lie in a court of law. Boy what a mess it would be. |
|
LOL, suing for libel or defamation without any proof because you didn't get into a private club.
You guys are funny. |
Suing would allow all of the private conversations and letters to come into light meaning that if someone lied about someone and they never had a chance to defend themselves, causing their family harm, then yes that would entitle a lawsuit. |
The proof would be revealed in the lawsuit duh |
|
Why are you assuming people lied about anyone? Thats a big leap!
You do understand that private clubs can make their own rules? You don't seem to understand this concept. |
Libel and defamation are not protected by club laws. Furthermore can you imagine what would be revealed when people must testify and are gross examined in court for rascist things they have said. |
They could bring in witnesses who unless they want to go to jail for lying in court - would have to tell the truth. |

Keeping someone out of a club doesn't mean that they are racist. You notice Obama or Tiger woods or a million other people of color or Jewish people are members of clubs. Clubs want people with MONEY (so that they know that they can pay their dues), and people who use the club (aka play golf and tennis and swim as that is how they make money). We actually toured one club that we decided not to join because for years they had only admitted Jewish people. We didn't feel that it was a good fit for us.
You can't discriminate against people who don't apply. Did you ever consider that AA's are a minority at clubs because very few AA's PLAY golf? http://www.golf.com/tour-and-news/where-are-all-black-golfers-nearly-two-decades-after-tiger-woods-arrival-golf-still-st I mean, is the NBA racist because its overwhelmingly one color? Maybe you can get involved with a program like The First Tee and help young minorities pick up the game rather than ranting about country clubs. |
I don't think anyone on here is anti-clubs. They are replying to the op about a particular club and answering her/his question candidly. All clubs don't discriminate but the one op asked about has a history of doing so and apparently according to some they are still doing it but more secretly. Instead of being on here and being so defensive why don't you go play some golf? |

Trying to educate people who have no idea how clubs work because they have never been a member of one, let alone on the membership committee isn't being defensive. It's pointing out facts.
Can't play today. Recent surgery. |
Have you read the thread? There is a loud and vocal contingent who is very anti-club. |
That's a strong accusation of religion-based discrimination you are making. I hope you're sure about it, and are prepared to provide your basis for making this public statement that could reasonably be seen as damaging to both the organization and the individuals involved in membership admission decisions. |
http://www.newgeography.com/content/00660-the-chevy-chase-club-real-estate-and-racism You think all these members who kept people out just disappeared? Why people want to join a club that has that history is hard to understand but to each its own. |
