What's scary is how quick everyone on DCUM is to assume racism.

The suspect appears to have been the last one seen with her. Then she disappeared. That's the primary reason we have as to why he's a suspect.

If he were white, I don't think things would be any different at this point - especially if a white suspect also had a past involving crime and possible sexual assault against women.

Who assumed racism?

Have you been reading this thread. It's been said many times that he is acting erratically not because he did it but because he's scared of being framed because he's black.

Oh, please. An innocent person acts innocent, no matter what color they are. Running off to Texas is not the act of an innocent man.

Unless you have been accused of a crime and facing life in prison, you have know idea how an innocent person acts.

I think by the end of the day Mr. Dreads will be facing more than just life in prison.

You are probably right, because people like you always remind us that our justice system is flawed. You have already convicted and executed this man before a the prosecution has admitted any evidence and the accused given the opportunity to rebut. In your mind, the trial is just preliminary necessity.

Major news sources, including CBS News, reported the same thing -- more accurately he was accused of rape and while no criminal charges we filed he was expelled over the incident.

How's that crow taste? Do you like it roasted, or baked in a pie with vegetables and a cream sauce?!

He was accused of rape, there was no evidence to arrest him and the woman dropped the charges. Sorry, no crow eating here.

No one said he was criminally charged. But there was obviously enough evidence of serious misconduct that Liberty U expelled him, which is what the media outlets reported Sometimes it takes more than an Ivy League degree to sniff out the details of a story. "Lesser" outlets than the NYT clearly have their place.

Liberty U has a prohibition against sex. He was expelled for having sex, not sexual assault.

Was the victim expelled? If not, then I think it turned on forced non-consensual sex that fell short of the evidence needed to get a rape conviction.

There's a scripture verse that says "avoid the appearance of evil" and he was likely expelled on those grounds by the Bible-believing Liberty U., even if the rape allegations were not proven.

This is false. There was a rape allegation.[/quote]

An allegation, you are correct. Anybody can make an allegation against anyone. Heck, you can allege that your husband raped you. Proving an allegation is different. I guess that's why allegations, accusations, arrests are not admitted in a court of law because if I don't like you, I can accuse you of poisoning my dog without evidence

Kind of like Ferguson where the cop was convicted by the media and the public with out the facts...

Isn't forced non-consensual sex the definition of rape? I'm thinking that the victim didn't want to go through pressing charges, the university had heard enough to want him out so they kicked him out based on breaking university policy rules...

it has been reported by the prosecutor that the victim didn't want to pursue it and they didn't have enough evidence (without her testimony). Being that she was at a conservative Christian University, she may have felt that going forward with the case would be worse for her via the shame than just dealing with it on her own. I can see how that could happen in a very conservative school/family.

Interested to see what forensics at the trail show about this man. Could be he is innocent, who knows?

I don't think the posters here learned anything about the Leo Frank case and the Knights of Mary Phagan.

And as for HG -- I hope she's found ok, but seriously to go out looking like that (which I realize many college girls do) and then to be stumbling around alone drunk and/or drugged -- made her an easy target. Are parents and/or schools no longer having safety talks because the world should be so safe that no woman should ever be a target for a man -- so she should be able to walk around however she wants anywhere at any time? Because that's not the world we live in.

What the hell? What part of him looks like a monster? He is tall and athletically built, because he was a football player. He has dreadlocks... like Maya Angelou and Whoopi Goldberg and Lenny Kravitz. I'm so glad this is anonymous so I can hear what people really think, which is that big black guys look like monsters. This is why we have a principle of innocent until proven guilty.

I wonder if my black daughter was missing? Would they scour all the cameras at a mall mile away to see if they see her? Probably not.

Some truth to what PP is saying, yes?

They searched high and low for Relisha Rudd and her picture was everywhere. This is not a race issue. I hope they can get this guy to tell what he knows whether he is guilty or innocent. I do not know how the defense lawyer can look at this girl's heartbroken parents and advise his client not to talk. As disgusting as the criminals themselves.

No. It is about class not race. Your black UVA student? Yes. Your poor black girl from the Bronx or poor white girl from rural WV? No.

Hmm, what outlets are you reading? I have not read these horrible comments anywhere. And are the posters identifying themselves as Black?

Yes they are. Mostly on twitter which I realize has it's fair share of whackos. Also various unmoderated forums.
