It used to be that they would hang convicted murderers outside the local jail. In Mississippi and Louisiana for a while they used portable electric chairs that they would truck around and set up outside the county courthouse where the murderer had been tried.

Seriously, tell me of instances when a missing black girl/daughter has received the sort of publicity and media attention that HG's case has received - or for that matter the attention that various white missing women in similar circumstances gets almost without exception.

And in this instance we have a missing white woman and the suspect is a large black man - and the racism directed against this guy is striking.

So don't pretend that a missing white woman does not get a lot more attention and publicity than does a missing black woman.

Tell me a time that a black college sophomore has gone missing from a huge school like UVa? The school dominates that town and the economy -- they would look for any student that went missing -- white or black, guy or girl.

Racism directed against him is striking -- really?? Can black people ever take responsibility for anything or allow another black person to take responsibility, ever? She was seen getting in his car; there was an account of how he acted all night long. Trust me if a white dude of that size acted that way with women and then took a college soph home who was never found -- there would be plenty said about him and much of it would be from white people who would not be defending his actions the way blacks always do for blacks.

Then the story line would be "Are the police doing enough?" "Shouldn't the media be taking this more seriously" And if the guy responsible were white, it would be presumed that racist animus was involved and that a hate crime occurred. You certainly wouldn't hear anyone saying that there was too much focus on the crime.

If Mr. Dreads did it, people will say he is a creepy killer. I guarantee they won't speculate that he had a racial motive.

It already is all over the news outlets. As a VT alum who was in Blacksburg in 2009, I am very relieved that the Harrington family (and now Graham family) will get some justice for their daughter and there won't be another girl to talk about, at least from action by this sicko.

There is no trophy for guessing right, and there is quite a penalty for guessing wrong and locking up an innocent person. This is why we do investigations and conduct trials. This is why we say "innocent until proven guilty".

Sadly that is true. Google Alexis Murphy. An AA teen who disappeared about 40 miles from Charlottesville - a White man has been charged. It did not lead the news up here.

However IMO, PP saying that does not take away from the tragedy of this situation. In this country, we make everying a battle or a comparision. It does not have to be that way.
