Shorter PP -- I believe that SES is catching. (The W schools in MCPS are Watkins Mill, Wheaton, Whitman, and Wootton. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/#school_list ) |
Th OP said she/he knew 5 kids who would have gone to Whitman choosing the Blair magnet. The point is that most from TPMS go to Blair because they have no other choice if they want to stay in the magnet program. Just loosen up. |

Actually, the OP asked for suggestions for schools in Silver Spring, where she and her family have already decided to move. |
1) OP did not say this, another poster did 2) I am not talking to OP, I am addressing the person who is consistently posting about how horrible Blair is, how no one truly wants to go to Blair, and how Blair is this terrrible, terrible school in which no one is getting educated unless they are in the magnet. 3) Is that loose enough for you? |
What is this? |
And for others we don't believe and have found that the two are not mutually exclusive. Now move on! |
|
It is clear that there is a group that like to play the diversity card to cover up lousy education. |
What is the "diversity card", and how does one play it? Especially, how one does play it to cover up something? How big is this "diversity card"? |
the posters were simply pointing out that Blair performance and DCC school performance is lower than "W" schools by some measures. what's wrong with that? the list that seem to confuse u is the WaPo rankings that were just published. Blair has been falling on that list and getting worse since 2011. so stop your offensive attitude and live with reality. |
Is that what you think they were doing? That's not what I think they were doing. The fact is that there are frequent posts on DCUM -- possibly from one person, possibly from more -- about how awful Blair is. Always Blair. Sometimes, for a little variety, Blair and the other DCC schools. But always, always Blair. Why this obsession? I can't figure it out. |
Maybe the 'Blair haters' kid didn't get into Blair. Every school in MCPS you can say something good & bad about. |

Blair leads the Nation in Intel Science winners ! |
So much ignorance and no-nothingism on this thread. First of all, The Post's Challenge Index is merely a measure of how many kids are taking AP tests. Blair is the largest school in the state of Maryland, and a lot of those kids are not college-bound. The college-bound kids, they're doing just fine, as the college admission results indicate every year.
Here's the funny thing: I've lived in the Blair community for 20 years and I know a lot of families. For all the supposed problems that are alleged about Blair on this site, I've never met anyone--let me emphasize ANYONE--who has expressed dissatisfaction about Blair, apart from a few kids who were overwhelmed by the size. Are these families ignorant? Hardly; many of them have multiple advanced degrees. So what does that tell you? The kids are happy, their parents are happy, and at graduation time, the college-bound kids go to really good colleges. And this all happens in a school that demographically resembles the real world far more than the whiter schools in the richer parts of our county. For some reason, this seems to drive some people on this site crazy. I'll leave it for the psychologists and sociologists to figure out why that is. |
