Wow! However, I'm not surprised. This is why I laugh when people think that Montgomery County is a utopia with progressive and open-minded people. The elitism and racism is so prevalent here. |
Not more prevalent here than elsewhere, though. |
Not true. Don't talk about what you don't know about. I am from SS. Enough said. And btw, DD's school isn't even 1/2 white. But it's got excellent scores - 90th percentiles, 9/10 greatschools etc. Why is everything about race to you? Oh I know, probably because you aren't from a very diverse area originally so it's fascinating to bring up race all the time even though it's very tacky. |
Same Poster - Let's take a look at what greatschools has to say (versus DCUM - I pick great schools): 4/10, 5/10, or 6/10 - EVERY SINGLE MIDDLE SCHOOL IN ALL OF SS except the magnet school 4/10 or 5/10 - EVERY SINGLE HIGH SCHOOL except the magnet school and Blake. A girl stabbed somebody to death at Blake btw a few years ago. Sounds very safe to me. Sure, some neighborhoods might have OK elementary schools. But the rest is crap. It just is what it is. |
Okay, now tell me where are the diverse middle and high schools with 9 and 10's in Montgomery County? There are plenty at the elementary level, but not at the middle and high school levels. |
I'm guessing that Montgomery County schools with 9/10 on great schools, and a minority of white students, have a large proportion of Asian students. Asians -- they're not white, but they're not non-white either... |
Well, see, that's your problem right there: thinking that either DCUM or Great Schools is a reliable source of information. (Let's make clear, also, that another way to say "a few years ago" is "in 2005".) |
SSIMS is a 7/10 greatschools. It's a non magnet IB program. Everyone we know is happy there. But like PP said - using dcum or greatschools as fact rather than a point of view, will not lead to good decision making |
We left MoCo because of the schools and taxes. I am in Fairfax. But there is a hell of a lot of diversity all over the DC area. Even in Potomac there must be. I looked up the SDAT (property tax/owner listings) at that address in Potomac where that lady ran over her kid a few months ago, and I don't recall a single white person name on the whole street. My AA ex-BF is from Potomac too. Surely nobody has to give up diversity in exchange for a wonderful school in the DC area. Just pick the wonderful school. |
Socioeconomic diversity. Wealthy Indians and Chinese are not the objectionable diversity the posters here are talking about |
Nope. This poster is well known for her views, and they all have to do with low SES and minority students. She conflates "low quality" with "low SES" and "black or Latino." Don't be an apologist for her, PP. |
Let me guess. You're in Olney/Brookeville, right? |
Why do you assume that this is only one person (or, actually, one woman)? I think that there are lots of people in Montgomery County who conflate "bad", "poor", and "brown". |
The anti silver spring bitch is back! She posts on every thread. Must be lonely having moved to the boonies while watching her old hood thrive.
Seriously though, MS in general is the weak point for every school system. The ES are almost all very strong, and two of the high schools in silver spring are very strong. The others aren't as highly regarded as the top schools but are still on par with most of the outer burb schools, and at the very least are better than 95% of the schools in the country. |
I hate to engage, but my non-white, non-Asian kids attend Viers Mill ES, which has a 9/10 rating (like I care). It's 15% white, 9% Asian, so... guess again. |
