Not pp, but I can answer that: those with high HHI who live outside the DCC. Specifically, the people who claim they "worked hard to get where they are" as if others don't work hard or aren't entitled to good schools. |
and those who believe that the only 'good schools' are the ones their kids attend (the rest are crap) plus the sock puppeting troll(s) who keep showing up in this forum and now the real estate forum with the sole agenda of bashing those they ASSUME are illegal immigrants |
OP here.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer my question! Many of the responses were quite helpful! We decided on a home zoned for Woodlin ES / Sligo MS / Einstein HS. We talked to several people whose kids either currently attend or previously attended these schools and were impressed with what they had to say. We love the area and have a very good feeling about our move! Thanks again! |
OP good for you!
We paid 100K more to live in a "W" cluster and with 2.0, the curriculum is no better. Our school is not overcrowded and we don't have kids on FARMS or lower scoring groups but it makes no difference. There is no math acceleration and the standards are as low as everywhere else in MCPS. Save your money and enjoy a cooler place to live, BCC and Ws aren't worth it anymore. |
Thanks for the encouragement PP! Although we were really impressed by everything we heard and read about Woodlin and Einstein (everyone we talked to raved about them!), I must admit we were a little put-off by Sligo MS's test scores and reputation at first. We felt much better about it,however, after talking to some of our future neighbors (all of whom were very friendly!).They all seemed to agree that, as long as our kids are supported at home, they will do well at Sligo, too. |
Great choice OP! We moved to the Woodlin district because my husband had such happy memories attending there when he was a little boy, and as a substitute teacher, I've found the students to be very well-behaved. Our oldest is in preschool, but we have no doubts about our choice. |
We live in this cluster and love it. Welcome to the neighborhood! |
I am curious how all the Woodlin families are feeling about Sligo Middle...I know there have been some challenges in the past but given the feeder schools there seems to good change afloat assuming people stick with Sligo and don't move or go private... |
Hi! I was trying to locate the OP for this thread. We are in a similar boat. We are moving to MD this summer and coming to the area over memorial day weekend to buy a house. We have a child starting 6th grade this fall (as well as an 8 year old and 4 year old). I am very interested in the same school cluster, but a little lacking in information about Sligo middle school. Any info about the middle school you can share, or contacts you could email me?? Thanks! |
