How in the world do you make that much as a tutor? |

Interesting. We're both doctors (who trained at Hopkins/Harvard/Stanford) and all our siblings are doctors and we know dozens well more well from school and training. To make a million in medicine you have to: 1) be a spine surgeon in a insanely busy practice 2) be a cash only plastic surgeon in NYC or LA or 3) be an interventional cardiologist who stents vessels that don't need to be stented 4) be a derm path at a major center I'd bet the number of docs in American who make more than a million actually practicing medicine full time (not working in industry, etc) is only a few hundred, if that. |

I agree about the major plastic surgeons earning a lot. You would be wrong about the number of high-paid doctors being only a few hundred in the entire United States, though. |
not for those who are just in clinical medicine. there are only a few hundred who make that much. More if you count those who work in executive positions, the pharmaceutical industry, for insurance companies, etc. |
Not the poster, but my friend does this. Parents are willing to pay $50-100/hour for a tutoring session, especially for more advanced topics like calculus. It adds up. |
I think the LASIK doctors do well. The one who did my eyes had done 25,000+ operations. The cost is $3-4k, and assuming he gets even $500 on it, that's a nice bit of change. |
I have a specialty, and I am good at marketing. I could probably make more if I actually left my house, but since I don't want to, I am happy with what I am doing. |

What's a biostatistician do? |
I need to become a tutor, apparently! |
| Re doctors. Those who have an equity stake in private hospitals and imaging centers, and who refer their patients to those places, tend to clean up financially. |
