So other institutions are opening tomorrow. MCPS should be able to get their act together to open on Wednesday, probably with a delay.

Nothing says “ready to open” like sleet/ice covered neighborhoods.

Other institutions ≠ 200,000 students, thousands of buses, and untreated neighborhood roads—but sure

Typical "if I have to go to work, everyone should have to!" mindset in this forum. Some of us actually care about the safety of kids-in ALL areas of the county no less, not just our own.

MCPS has a whole extra day to get their act together. I'm not saying they're going to open tomorrow. We already know they won't. But they can absolutely open Wednesday.

Our Bethesda area off Wisconsin was plowed for the second time today (first time Sunday) All clear now

No, schools are typically a full day (at least) behind everyone else. And everyone else includes the liberal leave people not coming in tomorrow.

Still not plowed at all here in our SS neighborhood!

They're going to be effectively done plowing later today. Only an exceptional few won't. Note that that doesn't mean you''ll be able to see pavement, but it does mean you'll be able to drive.

On any given day there's a small number of teachers and students who can't make it to school. That isn't reason to close.

They could definitely open child care tomorrow and certainly on Wednesday if they wanted to. They just don't want to because they dgaf about child care.

Taylor thinks mothers should be barefoot and pregnant at home, not working. That's the problem. He's actively hostile to working parents.

Lots of people live on your street. It doesn't reveal who you are. Just name it.

I don’t know about tomorrow, and I don’t know if the parking lots near us are cleared (questionable given the rest of our neighborhood). But I agree that reopening child care should be a priority.

Yeah it’s hard to pay 600$ a month for bar-t before and after care and not have any ability to use it for days because McPS has a blanket closure. Some neighborhoods are plowed out now

A lot of the child care employees are young employees who have probably only been driving a couple of years. It may not be responsible to have them all driving to work in ice either. It’s frustrating but in my opinion, defensible. And yes I have a huge work project due this week and am suffering

No basis for making a central decision on this. They could allow individual schools and providers to decide. They just don't care and probably forgot child care exists.

The closures/delays are self-perpetuating. MCPS didn't bother trying to prepare schools today because they already closed tomorrow. So now if things don't go smoothly tomorrow, they'll need to close Wednesday, despite it being entirely avoidable.
